senki sem tölt új bort régi tömlokbe,
különben a bor kiszakítja a tömloket,

újpalota plébániatemploma
újpalota hetvenes években épített lakótelepe egy mára lassan történelminek nevezheto múlt városrendezési és szociológiai kísérletének kudarca. több tízezer ember új helyre költöztetésével nem lehet új lakóhelyet létrehozni. különösen akkor, ha hiányoznak, vagy szándékosan kimaradnak a tervezésbol azok az intézmények, amelyek a közösséget szervezik és erosítik.
az új plébániatemplom építése erre teremt lehetoséget. a lakótelepek lelki megújulásának erosítéséhez olyan épületre van szükség, amely egyszerre fejezi ki az egyház évezredes múltjának erejét és az állandó megújulásra való nyitottságot is.
a tízemeletes tömbök mellett a templom nem magassági értelemben tud kiemelkedni - hisz harmincméteres tornyán a kereszt még így is csak épp túlnyúlik a panelházak tetején - hanem építészeti minoségével. ugyanakkor a mai világi harsányság közepette a templomnak mértéktartónak, szerénynek, egyszerunek, de erot sugárzónak is kell lenni. a hagyományos építoanyagok, a ko, a tégla és a fagerendák alkalmazása emberléptékuvé teszi a házat. a tégla, amit a homlokzatba építettünk, a ferencvárosi malmok bontásából származik, most egy másféle kenyeret fog óvni.
a templom alaprajzi elrendezése hagyományos, a padsorok egy irányba rendezettek, a fooltár felé fordulnak. a fohajó mellett elhelyezett kápolna terét csak az alacsonyabb mennyezet választja el térben. a nyugati kapu és a fooltár határozott tengelyes elrendezését a párhuzamos vonalban elhelyezett és formailag is hangsúlyos keresztelomedence és felolvasóállvány erosíti. a fohajót a kápolna feloli oldalfalon nyitott hatalmas ablakból beáradó fény tölti be. a lámpák a felülvilágítók és ablakok szerkezetébe illesztve helyezkednek el, így a mesterséges és természetes fény ugyanabból az irányból érkezik. a katolikus templomok hagyományaihoz illeszkedoen az ablakok magasan helyezkednek el, rajtuk keresztül inkább a környezo fák és az ég látszik, kivéve az utcai homlokzatot, ahol az arra járók a keskeny üvegcsíkokon betekinthetnek a templomtérbe, a keresztelomedence masszív mészkotömbje felett elláthatnak a fooltárig.
a homlokzati nyílások és a park felé megnyíló belso udvar a befogadás gesztusát erosítik. az új épület templom és közösségi ház is lesz. a terei a hitéleti funkciók mellett alkalmasak koncertek és kiállítások, eloadások szervezésére. szeretnénk, ha a templom védett, szintben lesüllyesztett mediterrán hangulatú udvara megtelne élettel hétközben is, az iskolából, munkából hazafelé igyekvok megállhatnának itt egy pillanatra, köztük azok is, akik egyelore csak keresik a kapcsolatot istennel.

parochial church of újpalota
the residential district of újpalota, built of prefabricated concrete blocks in the seventies, for today is the evidence of the fiasco of the large scale urbanistic experiments of the infamous communist past. it proves that simply moving tens of thousands people to the same place would not create new homes. especially, when the design lacks or deliberately neglects to provide the institutes that organize and reinforce the community.
the building of the new parochial church intends to create this potential. the spiritual regeneration requires a building that manifests both the millennial past of the catholic church and expresses its openness to permanent renewal.
this church cannot compete in height with the houses, as the cross on the 30 m high belltower hardly emerges from the ten-storey high blocks, instead it must be significant by its quality. the church must also contrast the everyday confusion with simple, modest, and at the same time powerful materials and forms. the traditional materials, such as brick, stone and timber give the building a human scale. the bricks used in the facade come from the wheat grain storages demolished in the south industrial district of budapest.
the floor plan of the building is traditional; the seats are organized to turn to the same direction, towards the main altar. the chapel is separated from the nave only by its height difference. the axis of the west portal and the main altar is further emphasized by the line of the uniformly shaped lectern and baptistery. the nave is illuminated by the light streaming from the huge window over the chapel. the lamps are positioned in the frames of the skylights and windows, in order to bring the artificial light from the same direction. the windows are positioned above eye-level, /following the catholic traditions, permitting views to the sky and the surrounding trees only/, except those on the street side that allow passers-by to look into the sanctuary over the solid limestone block of the baptistery.
the new building will be a church and a centre for the community. besides its spiritual function it will give space for concerts, exhibitions, presentations. we would like to see the lowered, Mediterranean-like courtyard filled with everyday life. the people passing by, coming from work or school, could stop here for a moment, also those who are still in search of god.
