                              Budapesti hidak • Bridges of Budapest

A kiállítás két részből áll. A nagy falon láthatóak a Duna-hidak különböző korokból származó tervrajzai, fotói. A bejárati falon - ízelítőül a mintegy 300 budapesti hídból - néhány, köztük az ághidak /K híd, Gubacsi híd, Kvassay híd/, és például a Milleniumi híd, a Ferdinánd híd vagy az Agancs utcai híd. A kiállítás másik része az elmúlt években felmerült, zömmel gyalogos híd ötleteket mutatja be, a Margitszigeti hídtól - a feledésbe merült Expo hídon keresztül - a Kopaszi gátra vezető gyaloghíd ötletéig. Ez a kiállítás elsősorban a híd városszerkezeti és kulturális szerepéről szól. Néha […] elképzelem, hogy a hidak nincsenek is: az emberek a levegőben kelnek át egyik partról a másikra, lüktető áramlásban, enyhe ívben a Duna fölött, aktatáskájukat lóbálva, gyerekkocsit tolva, telefonálgatva, gyalogosan, avagy láthatatlan járművek láthatatlan ülésein. Képzeletemben nincs alattuk híd, az is lehet, hogy átlátszó, erős üvegből van s így észrevehetetlen az emberi szemnek. Így gondolok tehát néha a budapesti hidakra: emlékezetem olyankor kiretusálja őket, csak az embereket és a sorsokat vélem magam előtt látni, amint átívelnek a folyam fölött /részlet Szőcs Géza megnyitó beszédéből/. • The exhibition has two parts. The larger wall displays blueprints and photographs from different eras of the bridges over the Danube. The entrance wall - as a sample of Budapest's over 300 bridges - shows the tributary bridges /K bridge, Gubacsi bridge, Kvassay bridge/ and, for example the Millenium bridge, the Ferdinánd bridge, and the Agancs street bridge. The second part of the exhibition shows the pedestrian bridge ideas that appeared in the last couple of years, from the Margaret Island bridge - through the now forgotten Expo bridge - to the pedestrian bridge leading to the Kopaszi dam. This exhibition is primarily about the urban structural and cultural roles of bridges. Sometimes […] I imagine that the bridges don’t exist: people walk on air from one bank of the river to the other, in a pulsing stream, a slightly arched curve over the Danube, swinging their briefcases, pushing prams, talking on their phones, on foot, or sitting in invisible seats of invisible vehicles. In my imagination there is no bridge under them, or maybe there is, made of transparent, strong glass so that it is undetectable to the human eye. This is how I think about the bridges of Budapest: my memory edits them out, and all I see is the people and their fate in front of me as they cross over the river /excerpt from Géza Szőcs's opening words/.
