Artspace Visual Arts Centre is seeking to fill the position of Curator
from 1 January 2006.

In 1982, Artspace was established in Sydney as an artist driven initiative. 
Artspace has evolved into a unique centre for the development, research and 
exhibition of significant new critical initiatives in contemporary art and 
theory in Australia and internationally.

Through the support of the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy of the Australia 
Council and the NSW Ministry for the Arts, Artspace has received a 
significant increase in its operating budget. The Curator will play a key 
role in the further development of Artspace in relation to this new funding 
environment.

The Curator will be responsible for developing and implementing new and 
existing curatorial programs in concert with the Executive Director.

The successful applicant will hold a higher degree in visual arts, related 
discipline or equivalent, have a demonstrated capacity for leadership in 
the field, excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. 
They will also have a significant record of accomplishment in the 
curatorial and exhibitions field, be knowledgeable and conversant with 
contemporary practice and be an energetic professional with the capacity to 
translate a vision of excellence in exhibitions programming into a reality. 
They will also have a demonstrated commitment and understanding of 
contemporary Australian art, culture and society within a national and 
international context.

A competitive salary package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
