TAXI MADRID

is currently on show in Madrid as part of the Festival MADRID ABIERTO 
(www.madridabierto.com)

TAXI MADRID is a mobile public art intervention by artists Anne Lorenz 
& Rebekka Reich addressing issues of perception and the logic of 
memory. Equipped with installations, 12 taxis will operate in Madrid 
throughout the duration of Madrid Abierto (5.2. - 27.2.), transporting 
their passengers into someone else's mind and memories of Madrid, those 
of an ex-patriot.

By interviewing former inhabitants of Madrid, who now live spread all 
over the world, artists Anne Lorenz and Rebekka Reich seek to find 
intriguing personal memories related to the city. From this material 
they devised sound-collages to become part of more complex 
installations, consisting of objects and other memorabilia, fitted into 
the taxis.

Regular taxi-users are caught off guard in the confined space of a car, 
abducted for a short amount of time from their everyday business. The 
artists seek to surprise and entertain the passenger by confronting him 
or her with an insight into the memory of a stranger, provoking a 
memory lapse. Due to the geographical distance of the interviewees an 
overlay of two pictures occurs: The out of date view of the ex-patriot 
merges with the current situation on site, and the meeting of the two 
lives on in the memory of the passenger.

TAXI MADRID es una intervención pública móvil dirigida a cuestiones de 
percepción y de memoria lógica. Equipados con mini-instalaciones, doce 
taxis seguirán el eje del Paseo de Recoletos – Paseo del Prado durante 
el desarrollo de Madrid Abierto, transportando a sus pasajeros a través 
de los recuerdos y la memoria que otra persona tiene de Madrid, un ex 
madrileño.
Entrevistando a antiguos habitantes de Madrid, que actualmente están 
dispersos por el mundo, las artistas Anne Lorenz y Rebekka Reich tratan 
de encontrar recuerdos personales e intrigantes acerca de la ciudad. 
Con este material trazarán un collage sonoro que formará parte de una 
instalación más compleja, consistente en objetos y otros memorandos 
situados dentro de los taxis.
Los usuarios del taxi son confinados en el espacio del coche, abducidos 
de sus quehaceres diarios por un breve periodo de tiempo. Las artistas 
intentarán sorprender y entretener al pasajero introduciéndole en la 
memoria de un extraño, provocándole un lapso en el tiempo. Debido a la 
distancia geográfica de los entrevistados se enfrentarán dos momentos: 
los recuerdos del ex madrileño se fusionarán a las situaciones 
corrientes del momento, y la unión de ambos momentos en la memoria del 
pasajero.
