dot.nu: 'live cinema' in motion
an event where sound art and image art meet
Date: Wednesday 30 January 2002
Time: 22.30 hours
Admission: free
Location: Rotterdamse Schouwburg, Schouwburgplein 25, Rotterdam
At the 31st International Film Festival Rotterdam V2_Organisation, in
collaboration with the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Paradiso
Amsterdam and the Production House of the Rotterdam Theatre will present
dot.nu, 'live cinema' in motion.
dot.nu is one of the driving forces behind the phenomenon of 'live cinema',
which focuses on various forms of live projections. The rise of VJ culture
has led to a renewed interest in alternative ways of presenting projected
images, and now developments in both hardware and software have made 'live
cinema' fact rather than fiction. After having provided an active platform
for live cinema for over a year, dot.nu will now also support research into
other forms of projection and experience.
At the invitation of dot.nu two unique performances will take place, combining:
COH (Ivan Pavlov, RUS) with Telco Systems (founders of 0010, minuszero,
D:U:M:B and DLF, NL)
KODI (Nathalie Bruys, NL) with Tappo Kontakt (Remco Schuurbiers, D/NL).
Biographies:
COH
Ivan Pavlov studied mathematics and physics at the University of Gorki
(Russia), specializing in acoustics. He is currently a resident of Sweden,
where he is employed as a software programmer. COH has released the CD
Enter Tinnitus, followed by the mini-CD Vox Tinnitus and has also
contributed a mini-CD to the series 20 minutes to 2000, released by
publishing house Raster Noton. On Vox Tinnitus voices have been added to
musical pieces that were originally recorded on Enter Tinnitus. One voice
is that of English singer, poet and actress Annie Anxiety, the other voice
is that of John Balance, well-known as the lead vocalist of the English
band Coil.
Telco Systems
Founding members of 0010, minuszero, D:U:M:B and DLF started Telco Systems
in 2001, to explore new modes of audiovisual expression. Their research
focuses on digital audiovisual in- and output, for which they build
dedicated collaborative systems. The hallmark of Telco's work is its lucid
and restrained aestheticism, which is closely related to the computer
technology they use. Their entirely abstract work form 'micro worlds',
which develop along the lines programmed by Telco Systems.
KODI
Nathalie Bruys is known under many aliases, such as KODI, NATH6LIE, AND1
and LACKMOES and in all of these guises she has roamed the world at large.
She makes music, does radio, performance/installation pieces and she also
makes films, besides producing programming events and performing as a DJ.
Nathalie's musical alter ego KODI has produced remarkable pieces and
performances for radio WORM as well as the 'Kunstvlaai'.
Tappo Kontakt
Remco Schuurbiers works on the borders of digital video and audio thus
making abstract compositions, installations or performances. In projects he
works with musicians in the field of Contemporary Electronic Music
producing composed or improvised audiovisual performances. Most recently he
has two main projects, the first together with the Dutch composer Huib
Emmer (Loos-Ensemble) and the second ?Syntax Error together with Dutch
audio artist Scaletti (Raoul de Vries). Remco Schuurbiers does videoclips
for several artist and labels like Bunker Records, Hotmix Records, Phako,
I-f and Gorefest. At the moment he works on the visualization of a new
opera of the Loos-Ensemble, which had its premiere in October 2001.
