Ian Hancock (University of Texas, Austin)
"Roma Identities"
IAN HANCOCK was born in Britain of British and Hungarian Romani descent and has been active in the Romani movement since the 1960s. Currently he is a Professor of Romani Studies at the University of Texas in Austin. Hancock represented the Roma at the United Nations and UNICEF until 2000. He is the only Romani member of the US Holocaust Memorial Council.

A documentary film screening, including a discussion with the director, presented by the Department of International Relations and European Studies:
"Breaking Points" (P. Schiffer)
First two parts: March 20, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Final part: March 21, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Better than any documentary to date, "Breaking Points" explains what the impersonal economic changes in Eastern Europe that are reported daily in the business section of newspapers have meant in human terms. Pal Schiffer, Hungary's top documentary director, takes us inside the lives of workers as they struggle with the personal challenges.
The film will be in its original version with English subtitles.
