amikor az ember összegzésre készül és a külvilágnak fel kívánja mutatni négy évtized termését, számadás ez és elszámolás is önmagával. visszatekintés a megtett útra, rátekintés a pályára. esély a megméretésre, a válaszok megtalálására. quo vadis? honnan, hová és miért? hogy meddig, azt nem az ember fia szabja.
gyermekkorom nyaralásainak emléke nyírkércsi nagyszüleimhez köt. györgy nagyapám 49 héten át gyujtötte a gyufásdobozokat, kicsiket és a családit is, hogy aztán három héten át házat-várat emeljünk azokból. majd ilyen méretu agyagtéglákat vetettünk, szárítottunk és gyakoroltuk a maradandóbb házépítést.
eleven emlékem a kemenceépítés édesapámmal, 1951-bol. ezek az anyag és formaszeretet kezdetei. a gimnáziumban debreczeni tibor irodalomtanárom pallérozott. az egyetemi évek elott bakóczy imre építésvezetoségén ismertem meg a misztériumot, a terv átalakulását épületté. ot is mesteremnek tekintem.
az építész kar után egerben találtam magam, ott, ahol az országos muemlék felügyeloség területi rezidense levárdy ferenc volt. tole kaptam az útravalót, majd már budapesten thurszky bélától, a megszállott értékmentotol.
muvelt a mesterség és tudásom szerint muveltem a mesterséget, a szakmát. három évig egerben, negyed századot a KÖZTI-ben, 1995-tol saját muhelyemben, immár dániel fiammal együtt, fiatalok között. nem osztályoztam feladataimat koruk-méretük szerint. szerettem új házat építeni és elszegodtem történeti értékeink mentéséhez, megorzéséhez.
házaim - gyermekeim. nincs kedvenc, vonzódásaim vannak. szerettem és szeretek tervezni és építeni. nem értem azok mu gondját, akik mindezt az önmegvalósítás céljaként cselekszik.
az eredmény vall alkotójáról, az o gondolkozásáról, jellemérol. de ez majd a mu kisugárzása, tanúvallomása lesz, és nem a célja létrehozásának.
a mu nem az építész privilégiuma. választott értékrendjével, mint az önkifejezés eszközeivel o alkotó része a beteljesülésnek. eredendo része, de az eredmény megítélése már önnön körén kívül esik. nagy társasjáték ez, komolyságot feltételezo.
a megépült ház önálló életre kel. jó, ha befogad, véd, nevel és boldogít.
nagycsaládban éltem és élek, eszményeimet itt találom és a szukebb-tágabb közösségekben. édesapám, eleink hamvai a szívemen dobognak. együtt dobogunk ma is. van még tennivalóm.
ifjú koromban a vitorlázórepülés volt a kiváltságos vonzalom, ma a golfozás.
a természet, a zene, a népdal, az utazás mindig. családommal jártuk a vizeket, hegyeket, országokat. természetközelben létezni és alkotni, ez éltet. mányi istván
when a person is preparing to sum up and show to the world four decades worth of work, he takes account of himself. he looks back on the road traveled, and forward at what's to come. this is a chance for understanding, and finding answers. quo vadis? where and why? for how long, that's not up to us.
memories from childhood summers tie me to my grandparents from nyírkércs. my grandfather, györgy, collected matchboxes, small and family-pack alike, for 49 weeks so that we could build houses and castles from them for three weeks. then we made clay bricks of the same size, and practiced more lasting construction.
one of my vivid memories is building an oven with my father in 1951. these were the beginnings of my love for materials and shapes. in high school, my literature teacher, tibor debreczeni improved my mind. before university, imre bakóczy introduced me to the mystery that is plans becoming buildings. i consider him my mentor.
after getting my architecture degree, i found myself in eger, where the regional resident of the national heritage committee was ferenc levárdy. he started me in this direction; my next guide, in budapest, was béla thurszky, a fervent protector of our historical treasures.
my profession educated me, and i worked to the best of my knowledge. for three years in eger, then for a quarter century at the KÖZTI, and since 1995 in my own office, with my son dániel, with the younger generation. i didn't judge my projects on size or age. i loved building new houses, and i devoted myself to saving and preserving our historic heritage.
my buildings - my children. i don't have favorites, just attractions. i've always loved and continue to love to design. i don't understand the problems of those who seek only self fulfillment in their work. results speak volumes on the designer, his way of thinking, his character. but this testimony is only a side effect, not the goal, of designing a building.
a building is not the architect's privilege. his values, through the tools of expressing himself, are an integral part of a project's fulfillment, however, the judgment the final project receives is out of his hands. this is a game that presumes seriousness. the finished building has a life of its own. it welcomes us, protects us, nurtures and makes us happy.
i grew up in and still live in a big family, this is where i get my values from, and from the various communities i belong to. my fathers and ancestors are still in my heart. our hearts beat together today. i still have things to do.
when i was young, glider planes used to be the past time of the privileged, now its golf. nature, music, folk songs, and traveling. we used to roam the mountains and countries with my family. to be near nature and to be creative is what keeps me going. istván mányi
