Matthew S. Witkovsky, a  The Art Institute of Chicago fotóművészeti osztályának vezetője és kurátora.

Matthew S. Witkovsky a The Art Institute of Chicago fotóművészeti osztályának vezetője és kurátora. Doktori fokozatát a University of Pennsylvania-n szerezte, disszertációját a csehszlovák avant-garde művészetről írta.
Witkovsky 1988 óta dolgozik a művészeti szcénában, eleinte New York-i és párizsi galériákkal működött együtt, majd a Philadelphia Museum of Art-ban dolgozott a Constantin Brancusi: 1876–1957 című kiállítás (1995) létrehozásán. Ugyanitt 1998-1999 között kurátorként tevékenykedett. Publikációi elsősorban a cseh művészet és építészet, a dada, a modern és kortárs fotóművészet témakörében, többek között a Harvard Design Magazine, The Art Bulletin, October és Études Photographiques magazinokban jelentek meg. A washingtoni National Gallery of Art munkatársaként Witkovsky a 2006-os nagyszabású Dada és a 2007-es Foto: Modernity in Central Europe, 1918–1945 kiállítások szervezésében vett részt.
Jelenleg a Light Years: Conceptual Art and the Photograph, 1964-1977 című nemzetközi kiállítás előkészítésén dolgozik, mely 2011 decemberében kerül bemutatásra a The Art Institute of Chicago-ban.

The next guest and lecturer of the
Check in Budapest curatorial visitor program
organized by ACAX | Agency for Contemporary Art Exchange

is Matthew S. Witkovsky, curator and chair, department of photography, at The Art Institute of Chicago.

In his lecture entitled "The Unfixed Photograph" Matthew S. Witkovsky will talk about his upcoming exhibition at The Art Institute of Chicago, Light Years: Conceptual Art and the Photograph, 1964-1977; and will also give a general introduction on the exhibition program of the department of photography at The Art Institute of Chicago.

Date of the lecture: 18 May, 2011 (Wednesday), 6 p.m.
Place: Hungarian House of Photography - Mai Manó House, 1065 Budapest, Nagymező utca 20.

The lecture will be held in English. All are welcome!

Matthew S. Witkovsky is curator and chair, department of photography, at The Art Institute of Chicago. He received his doctorate in the history of art from the University of Pennsylvania (2002), with a thesis on avant-garde art in the former Czechoslovakia.
Witkovsky has worked in the art world since 1988, first in galleries in New York and Paris, and then at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where he helped prepare the retrospective Constantin Brancusi: 1876–1957 (1995). Witkovsky returned to that museum as interim curator of photographs in 1998–1999. He has published and lectured widely on Czech art and architecture, Dada, and modern and contemporary photography, with articles in Harvard Design Magazine, The Art Bulletin, October, and Études Photographiques. Formerly at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, Witkovsky assisted there in the preparation of the large-scale touring exhibition Dada (2006) and curated the landmark traveling exhibition, Foto: Modernity in Central Europe, 1918–1945, in 2007.
He is currently at work on a show of Lewis Baltz’s Prototypes (September 2010), and an international survey exhibition, Light Years: Conceptual Art and the Photograph, 1964-1977 (December 2011).
