Az ACAX | Nemzetközi Kortárs Képzőművészeti Iroda kurátori vizitorprogramja immár ötödik éve hív meg elismert nemzetközi szakembereket, hogy betekintést nyerjenek a kortárs magyar művészeti szcénába.

Chris Sharp előadásában kísérletet tesz a visszavonulás művészeti gyakorlatának feltérképezésére. A visszavonulást nemcsak mint esztétikai gesztust vizsgálja, de gyakorlati példákon keresztül is bemutatja. A közönség olyan XX. századi és kortárs alkotókat ismerhet meg, akik időlegesen vagy végérvényesen kivonultak a nyugati művészeti életből.
Sharp az Art Review és a Kaleidoscope párizsi szerkesztőjeként a folyóiratok szerkesztési elveiről és a kritikaírás gyakorlatairól is beszél előadásában.

Chris Sharp (1974) Párizsban élő művészeti író és független kurátor.
Jelenleg is látható a bázeli Tinguely Museum-ban a Gianni Jetzer-rel közösen kurált Under Destruction című csoportos kiállítása, ami a rombolás, a pusztítás és a megsemmisítés szerepét vizsgálja a kortárs képzőművészetben. A tárlat 2011 januárjáig látogatható Svájcban, majd 2011 tavaszán a New York-i Swiss Institute-ban folytatódik. Sharp a londoni Serpentine Gallery megbízásából Becky Beasley-vel közösen hozta létre a 13 Pieces, 17 Feet előadást, ami 2010 szeptemberében a Jean Nouvel által tervezett Serpentine Gallery Pavilionban volt látható. Kurátorként olyan kiállítások fűződnek a nevéhez, mint a franciaországi Sèvres-ben, a La générale en manufacture-ben megrendezésre került In Which the Wind is Also a Protagonist című tárlat (2010. május), a prágai The Meet Factory Being There című kiállítása (2010. április), valamint a The Zero Budget Biennial projekt (társkurátor: Joanna Fiduccia), amely Párizsban, Milánóban, Londonban és Berlinben került bemutatásra (2009-10). Chris Sharp volt a kurátora a New York-i Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery Evidence of the Paranormal kiállításának (2009. november) és a detroiti Museum of Contemporary Art számára rendezett Alexander Gutke egyéni tárlatnak (2009. szeptember).
Sharp korábban a Flash Art szerkesztőjeként dolgozott, jelenleg az Art Review és a Kaleidoscope párizsi szerkesztője. Kritikusként rendkívül aktív, írásai többek között a frieze, a Modern Painters, a Metropolis M, a MAP magazine, az Art Lies, a Spike Quarterly és a Camera Austria folyóiratokban jelentek meg. A közelmúltban többek között Ian Kiaer, Nina Canell, Lara Favaretto, Nina Beier és Owen Land munkáiról publikált írásokat. Necessarily Incomplete Anthology of Withdrawal című viselő könyve hamarosan a berlini Archive Books kiadónál jelenik meg.

The 5th season of CHECK IN BUDAPEST begins!

ACAX | Agency for Contemporary Art Exchange has been inviting renowned international curators and critics to participate in the Check in Budapest visitor program since 2006. The aim of the program is to expand the network and facilitate efficient and continuous professional exchange among actors of the contemporary art scene in Hungary and abroad.

The 57th guest of the program is
Chris Sharp, independent curator, contributing editor of Art Review

ACAX cordially invites you to the guest lecture
"A Necessarily Incomplete Anthology of Withdrawal"
by Chris Sharp.

Date of the lecture: 25 October 2010 (Monday) 6 p.m.
Place: LudwigInzert (József krt. 70, Budapest H-1085, on the corner of József körút - Nap utca)

This idiosyncratic lecture will seek to map out a non-exhaustive trajectory of withdrawal, in terms of aesthetic gestures and in terms of practitioners who either temporarily or permanently withdrew from the field of art in western 20th century and contemporary art.
Chris Sharp is currently preparing 'A Necessarily Incomplete Anthology of Withdrawal,' to be published by Archive Books, Berlin, in 2011.

The lecture will be held in English. All are welcome!

Chris Sharp (b. 1974) is a writer and an independent curator based in Paris.
Current and recent projects include, 'Under Destruction,' a survey of destruction in contemporary art, which will take place at the Tinguely Museum Basel from October 2010 to January 2011 and the Swiss Institute New York from March to April 2011; the performance '13 Pieces, 17 Feet,' upon which he collaborated with Becky Beasley at the Serpentine Gallery, September 2010; 'In Which the Wind is Also a Protagonist' at La générale en manufacture in Sèvres, France, May 2010; 'Being There' at The Meet Factory in Prague, April 2010; 'The Zero Budget Biennial' 2009-10, co-curated with Joanna Fiduccia, which traveled to Paris, Milan, London, and Berlin; 'Evidence of the Paranormal' for Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery in New York in November 2009; and a survey of the work of Alexander Gutke for the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit in September 2009.
Formerly news editor at Flash Art, he is the Paris editor of Kaleidoscope magazine, a contributing editor of Art Review, and his writing has appeared in frieze, Modern Painters, Metropolis M, MAP magazine, Art Lies, Spike Quarterly, Camera Austria and other magazines. He has recently contributed texts to publications on the work of Ian Kiaer, Nina Canell, Lara Favaretto, Nina Beier and Owen Land among others.
