nformation about Visions in the Nunnery 2008
Date : June 6th - June 15th 2008
Visions in the Nunnery is an annual event that showcases some of the most
exciting British and International artists who are pushing the elements of
film, video and moving image practice. It is also an opportunity for artists
and audiences to engage with contemporary moving image work both visually and
through critical debate.
Visions in the Nunnery has been running successfully for seven years as an
open submission event. Following on from its success and ever growing
popularity Visions in the Nunnery 2008 will be expanding into a programme of
high quality contemporary moving image events that will showcase innovative
and engaging work by both emerging and established artists.
This new and exciting programme will include:
the International Open Submission,
a number of profiled curated events, talks and forums and
participatory elements working with young people and the community.
Last years International Open Submission was very popular with over 600
entries being sent in from all over the world. This event takes a very fresh
and exciting slice of contemporary moving image work and creates a critical
platform where artists and audiences can come together for the enjoyment of
contemporary moving image.
International Open Submission
How to apply:
Send in no more than three works that have been made within the last two
years. The work should be no longer than 10 minutes in length (although some
exceptions may be made if the work is particularly interesting). Emphasis is
placed upon encouraging artists to submit work that has been made within the
last two years of their practice and that is compelling and art form
committed. All entries will be selected purely on the merit and quality of
the work.
What we’re looking for:
New and compelling work; the work selected will be either projected or be
monitor based. Please submit no more than three works on DVD or DV tape, PAL
format. Please send a separate application form for each work submitted and a
short up to date CV.
Deadline for application 31st March 2008 (by post only no hand delivery accepted)
If you do not hear from us by 21th April 2008, your application will not have
been chosen. Please note that this, in no way reflects your submission in
particular, as the final selection will be based on the emerging theme and
suitability within the programme of the screened show reel.
Criteria:
· Be artists’ film, video / moving image
· Be of a contemporary nature and approach
· Be of good quality- interesting, compelling, and art form
committed

from Friday June 6th - Sunday June 15th 2008. You will also be encouraged to
attend the programmed events, because discussion about the work is an integral
part of it.
Visions in the Nunnery may use submitted and accepted work as part of its
publicity to increase visions in the nunnery’s and the artist’s
profile for
the event / future events. Please let us know if this is a concern; work will
not be used unduly.
