Rael Artel Gallery: Non-Profit Project Space opened a new exhibition space
in the basement of the Oskar Luts Central Library, Tartu, Estonia.
Focusing on the relations between art and information, the project space
in the university town Tartu is activated cold weather only: the first
show takes place in March and April, the next season will open in October 2006.
The opening exhibition of Rael Artel Gallery: Non-Profit Project Space in
the basement of Central Library, Tartu, is a site-specific project and
deals exclusively with the gallery space to be opened. The opening
exhibition is always a statement and deriving from the aspect of the
co-existence of the exhibition space and art, I saw it necessary to
dedicate the first exhibition to the environment of exposition itself.
“The Library Project. The Artist’s Dialogue with Space” mainly consists
works that stem from the specific space - the artists were asked to work
with the physical, emotional, historic and metaphorical quality of the
basement at 3/5 Kompanii Street. “The Library Project” is in its method a
close inspection. The audience is also welcome to inspect the works of
seven artists from the younger generation: Raul Keller, Kaarel Nurk,
Margot Kask and Virge Loo, Tanja Muravskaja, Rauno Teider and August Künnapu.
Curatorial statement of “The Library Project", descriptions and photos of
all the art pieces are available in the virtual environment of Rael Artel
Gallery: Non-Profit Project Space!
