TRANSITORY OPERATION

a project in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia) July /August 2006

..wherever you go..

........................................................................................................

Artists circle the globe in caravans: they meet for ritualized events in
spaces art. They search for possible pastures in the deserts of the
cities. Artist are on the road. They organize themselves as individuals,

form networks and use existing structures for their encounters.
Artists must rely on hospitality. They speak for an international
community and are transmitters of openness, they represent a
development that today defines the most various aspects of work and
communication.

Ulaanbaatar finds itself in a situation of transition between the
demands of global capitalism and the traditions of personal commitment.
It is a society torn between postsocialist entitlement and the
renaissance of rediscovered nomadic freedom.

For the project TRANSITORY artist are invited to react to the
environment of Ulaanbaatar with specific work proposals. The realize
pieces through performance and installation in the vicinity of
Suchbaatar square. Surrounding venues such as Union of Mongolian Artist

Gallery, Modern Art Gallery and Blue Sun Gallery cooperate throughout
the event involving Mongolian Artists.

We are looking for projects that reside within the context of pubic art
and answer specifically to the conditions of the exhibition situation in

Ulaanbaatar. The emphasis of the work process should address
improvisation and communication as aspect of transitory operations.

Artist, critics and curators will present different positions regarding
the subject of the nomadic for discussion. Possible key words in this
exchange could be: Urban Nomads - Movement and Balance- decentralized
expression- networking and needs- shifting ideas...

A catalogue with images and texts of this project will be published
(Engl. /Mongol).

The results of the project should emanate beyond Ulaanbaatar and
encourage dialog with other international institutions.
