Call for Entries

The Digitalis Digital Art Society (http://www.ddas.ca/ddas) in
collaboration with the New Forms Festival'05
(http://www.newformsfestival.com/) announces DIGITALIS: Patterns: An
Exhibition of Digital Print, to be held September 15 - 25, 2005 in
Vancouver, Canada.

This exhibition will present digital print images that incorporate pattern
to suggest or represent natural ecologies of thought, media or irritation*.
Without necessarily defining what patterns subconsciously represent, this
exhibiton acknowledges that patterns encapsulate primal and transcendental
communications, where shapes and colours are ultimate embodiments of beings
or living forms. Images can be decorative, geometric, iconically repetitive
or reminiscent of wallpaper or 1970-80's pattern painting. Images will have
been manipulated in some way by the computer.

Please send all submissions by email with attached JPEGS (and their framed
print dimensions) with a short bio to Digitalis curator James K-M at
electric at telus.net by May 1, 2005. There is no entry fee and the New Forms
Festival'05 will pay return shipping fees.

*In Understanding Media (1964) Marshall McLuhan wrote: "What we are
considering here, however, are the psychic and social consequences of the
designs or patterns as they amplify or accelerate existing processes. For
the "message" of any medium or technology is the change of scale or pace or
pattern that it introduces into human affairs."
