British East Midlands - Cultural Quarters Art Commission(s)

The Project

Expressions of interest are sought (by 31 January 2005) from visual
artists, or teams of artists, experienced in delivering large-scale work in
urban public spaces, and working in the fields of light, digital arts, new
media and new technology.

The Project is a programme of related site specific commissions to be
delivered in autumn 2005 benefiting cultural quarters in Derby, Leicester,
Lincoln, Northampton and Nottingham (the British East Midlands),
celebrating new cultural developments and an annual Festival of Light.

A commissioning budget of circa £750,000 (including artist fees, expenses,
production and installation, and project management) is available to
deliver the Project.

Following Expressions of Interest, a shortlist of artists/artist teams will
be invited to undertake an intensive, funded research and development
process in February 2005, which will involve visits to the proposed
locations and an opportunity to meet personnel from each cultural quarter.
A full Brief will be developed and detailed tenders invited from the shortlist.

Background

The Cultural Quarters Art Commission is being funded by East Midlands
Development Agency (EMDA).

A Commissioning Body has been established by EMDA and includes a
representative from each location that will benefit from the commissioning
programme. Following tenders selected artists will be invited to present
proposals to the Commissioning Body for a decision in March 2005.

ArtReach has been appointed by EMDA to manage and coordinate the project on
its behalf.
