The title "Check Slovakia!" is trying to draw the
attention to the identity of a young European
country, which can arouse interest of the
foreigners through high quality presentation and
finally detach from the still remaining
remembrance of former Czechoslovakia. The
collection of works by nine artists will present
various media of production - ranging from
classical painting hanged on the wall to
installation or video, while some of them reflect
social or political situation in the country in
which they had originated, some of them deal with
this context only on the margin of interest,
while others are more “globalized". The selected
artists had to meet the criteria set by two
curators - Viera Jancekova (SK), who is
acquainted with regional art scene and Alexander
Tolnay (DE), who adds his outside standpoint.
