+ MODULE CALLOUT FOR PROPOSALS

AVIT UK is a symposium created for and by the international VJ community
assembled around VJCentral.com. After Leeds in 2002 and Brighton in 2003,
AVIT UK 2004 will be organized at the Custard Factory in Birmingham, this
coming November 8th - 14th.

Through its events the AVIT festival seeks to achieve the following:

->To increase public participation in VJ'ing,
->To develop VJ'ing as an art form,
->To develop the skills sets of VJ's,
->To build links and relationships between the artists, the public and the
industry players,
->To facilitate inspiration and collaboration,
->To provide a platform for VJ'ing at a local, national and international
level
->To capitalise on the networked community of
<http://www.VJCentral.com>www.VJCentral.com for the
greater benefit of everyone.

The events will focus on four main areas of discourse in order to achieve
these aims.

-->Theory and practice: workshop, discussions and seminars-->Exposing work:
screenings, performance opportunities, exhibition spaces,
presentations.-->Collaboration: encourage and fund collaborative
initiatives, provide a space to network and socialize with peers.-->Event
production: offering support and advice to other events

The AVIT UK 2004 symposium will be composed of a five-day educational
conference and a three-day performance festival. The Conference will
encompass daytime workshops, talks & panel discussions, collaborative works
and more, from Monday through to Friday. The performances will run from
Friday afternoon through till the Sunday evening, with live performances of
all audio, visual and audiovisual types.

The Custard Factory is a industrial space converted into a Hi tech artists
district, which holds 3 performance spaces, a gallery, a bar, two central
courtyards and many smaller rooms / studios that can be used for workshops
or similar activities, all readily broadband networked. Many in-between
spaces, ideal for installations, can be found throughout the factory,
including 3 huge railway arches.

At present we are seeking curators, event organizers and the like to submit
proposals for our next event that will occur in Birmingham during November.
This callout is the first of many that will go out throughout the year but
this particular callout is aimed at people who wish to curate or run an
event or exhibition etc as your own project that you will responsible for.

As a result of going through our proposal process it is possible to achieve
some degree of funding, cross promotion and resources and support for your
ideas. So essentially we will provide the infrastructure for your concept to
take place within.

To help submissioners formulate a proposal, AVIT UK 2004 has drawn up a list
of examples:

-Hosting a weeklong collaborative project

-Presenting a documentary or research project

-Running an independant event within the AVIT structure such as a clubnight,
lounge event, or film night.

-Running a Health and Safety programme of seminars and workshops

-Organising a programme of software workshops or classes.

-Coordinating an art experiment

-Coordinating a web casting show/screening

-Creating and coordinating a DVD project

-Co-ordintaing a social event to faciltate networking

-Devising and coordinating a programme of lectures

-Curate and present a body of audiovisual work

In addition to these rough ideas you might have ideas that go beyond
anything we have considered.

Any questions, ideas or reactions to all the above please contact us at
<mailto:info at avit.org.uk>info at avit.org.uk for an active feedback and
