A ”civil twilight” annak az idõpontnak az asztronómiai meghatározàsa, 
amikor az  alkonyi és hajnali fény a földi képzõdményeket még és már 
tisztán láthatóvá teszi, a horizont pontosan kivehetô, és láthatóak a 
legfényesebb csillagok.  A ”civil twilight”  hajnali kezdete elôtt és esti 
vége után mesterséges megvilágítás szükséges bármely szabadtéri 
tevékenységhez.

A 2004. április 30-i éjszakai sötétség megszûnte  és május 2-a estéjén való 
beállta között hat háromórás sétát teszek a Hôsök terén illetve a tér 
körül. Folyamatosan sétálok az órajárással megegyezô, majd ellenkezô 
irányban, amihez minden érdeklôdô csatlakozhat, hogy együtt gondolkodjon 
velem a hôsiességrôl szóló lehetséges kollektív képzetekrõl. Járásom 
kitartó folyamatosságáról, valamint a kezemben fejjel lefelé tartott - 
mindennap különbözô szinû (piros, fehér, sárga fejû, és természetesen zöld 
szárú) - rózsáról leszek felismerhetõ. A performance idôpontjai tudatosan 
lettek kiválasztva Magyarország Európai Unióhoz való csatlakozása és az 
ezzel egybeesô “Munka Ünnepe” körül.

A meghívó személyes vagy más formában való részvételre invitál. A 
tetszõleges formában (e-mail, levél, kép, hang, tárgyak, gondolat) 
elküldött dokumentumokat május 4-e estéjen egy “beszámoló performance” 
keretében a Dartington Galeriaban (Dartington College of Art, Anglia) 
szeretném nyilvánossá tenni. Anyagok küldhetôk e-mailen a 
r.hunter at dartington.ac.uk, vagy postán Roddy Hunter névre a Dartington 
College of Arts, Totnes, TQ9 6EJ, England címre.

A "Civil Twilight VI: No More Heroes" egy kétéves performance kutatási 
projekt végpontja, mely közösségi funkcióval vagy jelentôséggel bíró városi 
tereken - vagy azokra utalva - zajlik. A kutatás a társadalmi ellenõrzés, a 
gazdaság- és politikatudomány, a vágy-, a történelem- és a 
szituációteremtés témakörében vet fel kérdéseket.  A projektben partnerként 
eddig kulturalis intezmenyek (pl. Piet Zwart Institute, Rotterdam) és 
kisebb közösségi szervezôdések  (pl. Pico Boulevard Revitalisation Group, 
Los Angeles) egyaránt részt vettek.

Performance-ok a projekt keretében: Dundee Law  Skócia; Trafalgar Square - 
London; Victory Square - Minszk; Plata Libertatii - Temesvár; Fôtér - 
Érsekújvár; Plaça de Catalunya - Barcelona; Cathedral Quarter - Belfast; 
Pico Boulevard - Los Angeles; Baghdad - Irak; Yitzhak Rabin tér - Tel Aviv; 
Adamsdown - Cardiff; Wiite de Withstraat  Rotterdam; Tian’anmen 
tér  Beijing; Hôsök Tere - Budapest.

'Civil Twilight ' is an astronomical term describing the limit at which 
twilight illumination is sufficient for terrestrial objects to be clearly 
distinguished, when the horizon is clearly defined and the brightest stars 
visible. Artificial illumination is required to carry on ordinary outdoor 
activities before the beginning of morning civil twilight and after the end 
of evening civil twilight. Complete darkness, however, ends sometime before 
and after these times.

Between the disappearance of darkness on Friday 30 April and its 
reappearance on Sunday 2 May 2004 I will undertake six three hour walks in 
and around the perimeter of Hõsök Tere, Budapest. I will walk continuously 
in both clockwise and anti-clockwise directions and invite anyone 
interested to walk with me to help discover collective ways of thinking 
about heroism. I will be recognisable by the repetitive insistence and 
deliberateness of my continual motion and by carrying a different coloured 
rose (red, white, or yellow flower; the stalk is always green) upside down 
on each different day. It is of course deliberate that this performance 
will occur over the day that marks Hungary's accession to the European 
Union and International Workers' Day.

I invite your collaboration, whether in person or from a distance, in 
anyway you feel appropriate toward making this project successful. I will 
endeavour to publicly share any material (emails, letters, images, sounds, 
objects, thoughts
) on the evening of Tuesday, 4 May 2004 during a 
performance reporting on the project at Dartington Gallery. Please make any

'Civil Twilight (VI): No More Heroes' marks the culmination of a two-year 
performance research project situated in - or referring to - urban places 
of civic function or importance in deliberately varying locations. The 
research asks questions about social control, economic and political 
science and constructions of desire, history and situations. Project 
partners have ranged from cultural institutions such as Piet Zwart 
Institute, Rotterdam to community groups such as the Pico Boulevard 
Revitalisation Group, Los Angeles.

Works have centred upon Dundee Law, Scotland; Trafalgar Square, London; 
Victory Square, Minsk; Piata Libertatii, Timisoara; Main Square, Nové 
Zámky; Plaça de Catalunya, Barcelona; Cathedral Quarter, Belfast; Pico 
Boulevard, Los Angeles/Baghdad, Iraq; Yitzhak Rabin Square, Tel Aviv; 
Adamsdown, Cardiff; Wiite de Withstraat, Rotterdam/Tian’anmen Square, 
Beijing and now Heroes' Square, Budapest.
