SELFWARE. politics of identity 15. Mai bis 28. Juni 2003 Thienfeld, Graz

SELFWARE praesentiert zwischen 15. Mai und 28. Juni 2003 mehr als 60 
internationale MusikerInnen, VideokuenstlerInnen, ProduzentInnen, 
TheoretikerInnen, ComputerspieledesignerInnen und JournalistInnen im Grazer 
Thienfeld. Deren Beitraege bilden eine breite Palette an 
Veranstaltungsformaten, eine Plattform fuer aktuelle Kunst und Musik, fuer 
interdisziplinaere Crossover-Projekte und Diskussionen. Sie drehen sich um 
Mode, Musik, visuelle Medien, Computerspiele, Netzkulturen und die 
vielfaeltigen UEberschneidungen, die zwischen diesen Bereichen stattfinden. 
Vom 15. bis 17. Mai eroeffnet SELFWARE mit einem Querschnitt durch die 
verschiedenen Programmbereiche.

DONNERSTAG, 15. Mai 2003

20:00 Eroeffnung anschliessend visomat av (Berlin): "Montage, De-", 
Audio-Video-live-Mix visomat inc. / DJ Skate (Labstyle, Berlin) / Live Act 
visomat inc. arbeitet an Musik-reaktiven Systemen fuer die Visualisierung 
von DJ-Sets bzw. elektronischen Live-Auftritten und entwickelt temporaere 
und permanente Medieninstallationen. visomat av setzten sich in "Montage, 
De-" mit der internationalen Architektur der ehemaligen DDR auseinander. 
Als Materialvorlage dienen sozialistische Bauten aus dem Ostteil Berlins, 
insbesondere ihre Details: Reliefs, Fassaden, Kunst am Bau, etc. Viele der 
gezeigten Gebaeude und Strukturen existieren nicht mehr, ein grosser Teil 
wird in den naechsten Jahren verschwinden - das Symptom fuer die 
Veraenderung im Selbstverstaendnis nicht nur Berlins, sondern ganz

19:00 Ausstellung "Best of SELFWARE.style" und Praesentation der 
SELFWARE.edition 20:00 Fee Magdanz (D): Rock, Hose & T-Shirt. Oder wie 
sieht die Mode heute aus? / Vortrag Ein Blick auf die Zusammenhaenge 
zwischen Mode, Musik, ihrer visuellen Umsetzung und Praesentation, sowie 
ihrer Produktionsweisen und die damit verbundenen Lebensentwuerfe. 
anschliessend: Suerte / Dirk Leyers / Closer Musik (Kompakt, Koeln) / Live 
Act senking (karaoke kalk/Koeln) / Live Act Fee Magdanz hat zwei Koelner 
Musiker/DJs ausgewaehlt, die zwei wichtigste Koelner Labels repraesentieren 
- Kompakt und Karaoke Kalk. Zusammen mit dem Vortrag ergibt der Abend einen 
aktuellen Einblick in die Koelner Szene als eine der wichtigsten fuer die 
deutscher Musikproduktion der letzten zehn Jahre.

intendierten Lo Fi-Sounds und nichtgeplanten Software-Fehlern jede 
Performance zu einer Herausforderung fuer die Kuenstler und die Zuhoerer 
macht. "Gameboy Pocketnoise" wird von Martin Stepaneks Basspiel - live oder 
gesampled - ergaenzt, das er in der Vergangenheit fuer zahlreiche 
Veroeffentlichungen und Shows des Wiener Cheap-Labels beigesteuert hat.

 From May 15, to June 28 SELFWARE presents more than 60 artists, musicians, 
experts, producers, journalists and game designers at the Thienfeld in 
Graz. Their contributions and projects range from art to experimental 
laptop music, including numerous interdisciplinary and cross over projects. 
They deal with fashion, music, visual media, film, computer games, net 
culture and the many overlaps between these fields of cultural production.
The opening days of SELFWARE from May 15 to 17 establish a first cross 
section of the program focusses.
THURSDAY, May 15, 2003

20:00 opening followed by visomat av (Berlin): "Montage, De-", audio-video 
live mix visomat inc. / DJ Skate (Labstyle, Berlin) / live act visomat inc. 
was established in Berlin [D] in 1997 and is working on systems that react 
to music for the visualization of DJ sets or electronic live performances, 
as well as on the development of temporary and permanent media 
installations. In "Montage, De-", visomat av investigated international 
architecture from the former German Democratic Republic. The material 
examined includes socialist buildings from Berlin's eastern districts and 
in particular their details: reliefs, facades, art integrated into the 
architecture, and so on. Also the color schemes used in this architecture 
play a crucial role. Many of the buildings and structures presented here no 
longer exist, many of them will disappear within the next years.

production and the related blueprints for living as a basis for formulating

Live Act Fee Magdanz bought with her two musicians/djs representing the two 
most important labels of Cologne, Kompakt and Karaoke Kalk.

lo-ser gameboy pocketnoise (A) / live act Truthful to his slogan "why 
settle for more", programmer Kummerer had built a unique 4Bit 
sampler/synthesizer whose genuine mixture of intended lo-fi sound and 
unintended software bugs make each performance a challenging experience for 
the artist and the audience. The gameboy pocketnoise is complemented by 
Stepanek's live and sampled bass playing, which he has contributed to 
numerous releases and shows for Vienna's esteemed Cheap label in the past.
