UNESCO - Aschberg Bursaries for young artists 2001/ 2002

The annual UNESCO - Ashberg Bursaries for Artists programme aims to promote
the professional growth of young artists in difference disciplines, through
opportunities for further training and residencies in other countries. In
2001 - 2002, 60 bursaries are being offered in 29 countries. The programme
is managed by UNESCO's International Fund for the Promotion of Culture
(IFPC), which will be considering applications in June-July. The deadline
for application is 30 April 2001 unless stated otherwise.

The following bursaries are available to artists from the UK (Complete list

Visual Arts:

Residency at the Cimelice Castle (Czech Republic) A two-month residency for
artists (painting, mixed media, sculpture, installation, performance and
literary arts), who wish to have facilities for focused work and are
interested in contact with other international artists. The residency takes
place between August to September 2001. Round trip travel, accommodation
plus a   stipend of 16,000 CZK for the two months will be provided. The
facility provides individual studios, bedrooms, workshops, Internet

Residency at Darat Al Funun Art center, Amman (Jordan) A month residency
for professional artists involved in painting, printmaking, sculpture or
installation with experience and strong commitment. There are possibilities
of working with local artists and the successful candidate will be
requested to give a lecture or conduct a workshop. The dates of the
residency will be fixed by mutual agreement. The facility provides
exhibition space, research and video library, sculpture and printmaking
workshops. Accommodation, living expenses of US $350 per month, studio

Residency at the Sanskriti Kendra, New Delhi (India) A three-month
residency for practitioners of painting, sculpting, pottery and ceramics,
photography, new media and crafts, who are aged between 25 to 40 with
demonstrated ability and commitment. The facility provides 12 studio
apartments, which are designed as combined living and work quarters. Basic
technical equipment, workshop and conference facilities, a library, an
open-air auditorium and a museum are also provided. Round trip travel,
board (vegetarian meals), lodging and US $750 for the living expenses and

Residency with COOPERATION, Wiltz (Luxembourg) A two-month residency for
professional artists who are interested in the links between arts and
environment (in particular gardens), and/or art and social sphere (in
particular, working with people with learning disabilities). Working
knowledge of English, German or French is required. The facility provides
use of wood and material workshops (time to be shared with artists with
disabilities). Round trip travel, lodging in an individual room with a

residency for professional visual artists (painting, sculpture, modelage,
pottery and especially ceramics) with demonstrated achievement from all
over the world.  Working knowledge of French required.  Large working

Eresko (France) A two-month residency providing concert training for
competition, recording, and practices in studios for high-level pianists.
It will include round trip travel, tuition, board and lodging. Working

A six-week residency for contemporary music composer or video artist
interested working with traditional sources. Working knowledge of English,

lodging, and living expenses for six weeks, with working/performance space.
There will be contact with local artists in Nairobi (including traditional
musicians in the case of composers), specific technical facilities, and

Residency at the Chinese Opera Institute (Singapore) A three-month
residency for professional actors, musicians or dancers interested in
Chinese opera.  The Candidates should be under the age of 35 with at least
five years experience.  Working knowledge of Chinese in any form would be
an advantage.  The programme includes round trip travel, board and lodging,
training with opportunities to participate in the Institute's training
courses on Chinese opera movement and performances, seminars and

nine-month residency for classic dancers under the age of 25, who has
demonstrated ability and commitment, with a diploma from a classical dance
academy, a professional dance school or a similar institution. Working

Residency at the Dance Center, Bangkok (Thailand) A three to six-month
residency for professional dancers or choreographers, who are under the age
of 35. They should be familiar with both classical and modern dance, with
experience of working abroad. Priority for the candidates, with special
skills, such as music therapy or dance therapy, knowledge of ethnic dance
or experience of teaching children. Experience in ethnic dance such as
African and South American will also be considered an advantage. The dates
