"Artist's Creative Residency Network" International Seminar for Countries
Participating in the Ars-Baltica" Organization. "Ars-Baltica" Program.

=09St.-Petersburg branch of The National Center for Contemporary Art of the
Russian Ministry of Culture invites all participants of the international
organization "Artist-in-Residence," under the auspices of the Ars-Baltica
program, to take part in the "Artist's Creative Residency Network" seminar
to be held in St. Petersburg and Kronstadt from the 17th to the 19th of
October, 2001.
=09Representatives from the ten countries of the Ars-Baltica organization a=
nd
representative of the federal and regional authorities of those countries
will be participating in this seminar. During the course of the seminar, th=
e
following issues will be discussed:
=9E=09missions being fulfilled by the residencies and its purview of releva=
nce
=9E=09financial basis for the existence of residencies, possible ways of
cooperative funding of residencies
=9E=09involving various cultural organizations in projects connected with t=
he
residencies
=9E=09creation of Ars-Baltica Artist's Creative Residency Network web-site,
establishing contacts and increasing their number, communicating with
residency projects in other countries
=9E=09management and promotion of residency programs
=9E=09development of a system of introduction and promotion of the experien=
ces
of the most successful residencies
=9E=09potential ways of creating residencies in Russia on the basis of
residencies already existing in other countries
=09 The seminar will allow us to evaluate and discuss the possibilities for
cooperative efforts of those involved in the project: artists and
organizers, authorities on the federal and regional levels, representatives
of foundations and cultural organizations on which the subsidizing and
development of the program depends.
=09The seminar proposes to unite the activities of those who take part in
residencies in large cities and small towns for the first time.
=09Since the first official Russian artist's creative residency opened in t=
he
city of Kronstadt, part of the seminar is planned to take place in Kronstad=
t
and its environs.
=09Program for the Kronstadt Segment of the Seminar:
=9E=09working session in the Kronstadt Maritime Assembly
=9E=09meeting with the city authorities
=9E=09excursion through Kronstadt, including a trip to the forts on a cover=
ed
boat
=09Among the organizers and sponsors of the seminar are the Ministry of
Culture of the Russian Federation, the Committee on Culture of the St.
Petersburg city administration, and the Territorial Directorate of
Kronstadt.
=09We request that you send information about your activities and the
activities of other representatives of Ars-Baltica organizations and
residency programs who wish to take part in the seminar. In addition, we
welcome your input about the agenda of the seminar. Please send your
questions and comments to seminar2001@fromru.com no later than the 13th of
August.

The opening of the seminar
1.Unveiling of the seminar by Esko Vesikansa - director of Finnish Artist's
Studio Foundation.
2.Information of Kristen Thomsen about the results of the privies seminar,
devoted to the problems of artists residencies.
3. Introduction of participants

The 1st working session
1st theme of discussion: Integration between Eastern Europe, Res Artis,
International Association of Artists residencies and The Baltic Sea
Residency Network.
2nd theme of discussion: Problems, connected with international activity of
the residencies.
The following issues will be discussed:

different projects, manager's activity, financing)

cooperative funding of residencies
=9E=09involving various cultural organizations in projects connected with t=
he
residencies
=9E=09potential ways of creating residencies in Russia, Western and Eastern
Europe on the basis of residencies already existing in other countries

For 10 participants from Eastern Europe all traveling and living
expenditures are paid by SCCA. You can sent 1 representative from yours
residency
You must apply to the local coordinator for traveling expenditures.
