Drozdik Orshi kiállítása két évtized fotómunkáit tekinti át: 1975-től, első
fotóalapú munkáitól kezdődően – melyek fotókról, például
aktmodell-beállításokat ábrázoló fotókról készített fényképek voltak –
1995-ig, a Kaland a technos dystopiumban (1983–1995) című
installációsorozatok lezárulásáig. A fotó mindvégig szerves része volt
változatos médiumú műcsoportjainak, azonban a Főiskolán a fotográfia a
művészeti oktatás elkülönült médiumszemléletéből kiszabadulva, kísérletező
munkára adott lehetőséget. A kísérletezés öntematizálást, például
próbacsíkokból összeállított, hasított-tükrözött-elmozdított önarcképeket
jelentett egy tudatos alkotói program kialakítása során. E program a
művészettörténeti narratíva női nézőpontú megteremtését jelentette, melynek
a nő és a hatalmi rendszerek (főleg fotografikus) reprezentációjára
irányuló kutatások, feminista megközelítések szabtak irányt. A
reprezentáció kritikáját azonban nem csak fotografikus, hanem textuális
formában is megvalósította: az Individuális mitológia (1975–1977)
szabadtáncosok mozdulatairól készült fényképeihez szabadverseket írt. A
természettudományi múzeumokban készült fotók szolgáltak a Kaland a technos
dystopiumban című sorozat alapjául, melyben szerelmesvers és szerelmes
levél formáiban fogalmazta meg a nő – férfi által meghatározott –
önértelmezésének a kritikáját. A patriarchális tudományos rendszerek
vizsgálatában a lírai nyelvezet az uralkodó tudományos narratíva
látszólagos objektivitását ellensúlyozza és mutat rá a nézőpont
viszonylagosságára, végső soron a női nézőpont kifejezésének
szükségességére.

Orshi Drozdik’s exhibition covers two decades of photographic work, from
her first photo-based pieces in 1975 – which were photographs of
photographs, showing, for instance, nude model compositions – to the
completion of her installation series Adventure in Technos Dystopium
(1983–1995) in 1995. While photography has always been an integral part of
her ensembles of works created in diverse media, at the Hungarian Academy
of Fine Arts, photography offered a possibility of breaking away from the
academic segregation of media that characterised art education, providing
the artist with an opportunity for experimentation. In Drozdik’s case, this
experimentation meant self-thematisation – consisting, for instance, of a
split-mirrored-displaced self-portrait built from test strips – while
developing her conscious artistic program. This program entailed the
establishment of a feminine perspective on art-historical narrative, as
well as research and feminist approaches aimed at the visual (primarily
photographic) representation of power systems. Her critique of
representation, however, was not only photographic but also textual: she
wrote free verse to accompany her photographs of the movements of free
dancers in Individual Mythology (1975–1977). Photos taken in natural
history museums served as the basis for the artist’s series entitled
Adventure in Technos Dystopium, in which she articulated her critique of
women’s self-interpretation – as determined by men – in the form of love
poems and love letters. In her examination of patriarchal scientific
systems, the lyrical language counterbalances the apparent objectivity of
the dominant scientific narrative and points to the relativity of
perspective, and, ultimately, to the necessity of giving expression to
women’s vantage point.
