Culture at the Crossroads: The East
Europe Biennial Alliance Invites to an Online
Symposium.

The live streamed symposium of the East European
Biennale Alliance is taking place on Friday 18
September 2020, and is devoted to mutual
relationships of institutional co-operation,
decolonisation, ecology and technologies, as well
as the society-wide changes that cultural
institutions are facing, among other factors as a
consequence of the present coronavirus crisis.
The symposium will be broadcast live on the
online channels of the hosting Biennale Matter of
Art (VVUMOA), which together with the Biennale
Warszawa, Kyiv Biennial and OFF-Biennale Budapest
is a founder member of the EEBA. For more

How Do We Want to Co-operate in Eastern Europe?

What should we expect from art and art
institutions in the next few years or decades?
What is their role in a time of fundamental
social transformation? Why do we create and
exhibit art, for whom do we do it, and does it
make any sense to continue using the same formats
and materials as previously? What should art
focus on and what can it change. Biennales have
become important means for seeking new contexts
and audiences for contemporary art. In this
light, it is the intention of the Alliance to
reinforce the role of biennales in shaping new
forms of international solidarity, expanding the
social-political imagination and the development
of alternative cultural solutions. Through an
uncompromising linkage of aesthetics and
politics, the Biennale Alliance wishes to present
a new shared narrative to the East European
region, and newly define the manner in which
cultural institutions co-operate.
