A kiállítás Tót Endre nyomdai eljárásokkal létrehozott, illetve azokhoz szorosan kapcsolódó – nyomtatványokat kisajátító és eltérítő, vagy tipográfiai jellegű – alkotásaiból mutat be válogatást. Ezek a művek őrzik Tót Endre festészettől a konceptuális művészet, illetve új médiumok (mail art, xerox, akció, bélyeg, pecsét) irányába való elfordulását és elköteleződését, az életművet meghatározó „ideák” – Örömök, zer0, Esők – megjelenését, és a művész nemzetközi networkbe való bekapcsolódását is követhetővé teszik. Az ebben a folyamatban meghatározó szöveges közlések, konceptművek közül olyan darabok szerepelnek a kiállításon, mint az Örülök, hogy ezt a mondatot lenyomtathattam 1971-ből, vagy a Valahol itt a mosoly 1972-ből. Előbbi Tót első, a korabeli cenzurális viszonyok miatt illegálisan létrehozott nyomdai munkája, egyúttal az első Öröm-darab. Utóbbi a Tót számára meghatározóvá vált
hiány-probléma korai megnyilvánulása, ahogy első művészkönyve, a My Unpainted Canvases (1971), illetve az 1974-es Night Visit to the National Gallery esetében is a jelenlét és a távollét kérdése a meghatározó. A mára a műfaj klasszikusainak számító két kiadvány mellett a kiállítás bő és széles körű merítést mutat be az alkotó művészkönyveiből a Magyarországon szerzői kiadásban, szamizdatként készült, számozott nyomtatványoktól a hetvenes évek közepére egyre inkább meghatározó nemzetközi avantgárd kiadóknál megjelent könyvekig, egészen a Rainer Verlagnál 1981-ben megjelent két kiadványig (Book of an Extremely Glad Artist, illetve Very Special Drawings). A könyvek között a kiállítás olyan, egyedi darabokat is szerepeltet, mint amilyen az alkotó 1971 és 1976 között készült művészpecsétjeit őrző füzet.

A kiállítás kapcsán készült interjúban Tót Endre maga beszél a nyomdatechnika munkásságában betöltött szerepéről, illetve a művészkönyvek készülésének történetéről. A kiállításhoz kapcsolódóan a DEPOSIT zine 150 számozott példányban zine-t jelentet meg a bemutatott művekből válogatva.

A kiállítás az acb Galéria, az ISBN könyv+galéria és a Neon Galéria együttműködésében valósul meg.

!!!Technikai információ!!!

A járványügyi helyzetre való a megnyitó napján délután 5 és este 10 óra között a szervezők jelenlétében lehet megtekinteni a kiállítást. Szeretnénk betartani a távolságtartásra vonatkozó ajánlásokat, ezért a Facebook eseménynél szavazást hozunk létre. Kérjük jelölje be mikor szeretne jönni és ha teheti, olyan időpontot válasszon, amire még nem voksoltak sokan. Rendezvény tilalom egyelőre nincs érvényben, de megnyitóbeszéddel ezúttal nem készülünk. A maszkviselés minden üzlethelyiségben kötelező, így kérjük úgy készüljön, hogy a helyiségbe nem lehet belépni az orrot és a szájat teljesen eltakaró maszk nélkül. Kézfertőtlenítőt a helyszínen biztosítunk.

The exhibition presents a selection of Endre Tót’s works created by printing methods, or pieces closely related to those technologies either by appropriating and diverting various printed matter, or being works of a typographic nature. These pieces indicate Endre Tót’s shift from painting towards conceptual art and new media (mail art, xerox, action, rubber stamp), as well as the appearance of the “ideas” ̶ Joy, zer0, Rain ̶ that define his oeuvre. They also allow the viewer to observe the process of the artist’s inclusion into the international network. From among the textual statements and concept works which were decisive in this process, the exhibition includes pieces such as I am glad I was able to print this sentence (I was glad to print this sentence)from 1971, or The smile is somewhere here from 1972. The former is Tót's first work executed by printing, created illegally due to the censorship of the time, and is also the first piece of the Joy-series. The latter is an early
manifestation of the problem of absence which has become distinctive for Tót, in the same way as in the case of his first artist book My Unpainted Canvases (1971), and the 1974 Night Visit to the National Gallery, the issue of presence and absence is pivotal. In addition to these two publications that are now classics of the genre, the exhibition presents a rich and wide-ranging selection from Tót's artist books; from catalog-like, numbered, samizdat prints made in Hungary, to artist books published by major foreign avantgarde printing houses by the mid-seventies as well as the two books produced by Rainer Verlag in 1981 (Book of an Extremely Glad Artist and Very Special Drawings). Among these, the exhibition also showcases some unique pieces, such as a notebook that preserves Tót’s rubber stamps made between 1971 and 1976.
In the interview specifically made for the occasion of the show, Endre Tót himself talks about the role of printing technology in his works as well as the history of making artist books. In connection with the exhibition, DEPOSIT zine will publish a zine in the form of 150 numbered copies with reproductions of a selection of works presented at the show.
The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between acb Gallery, ISBN Book+Gallery and Neon Gallery.

Due to the epidemiological situation, we prepare with an unusual event. You can visit the exhibition from 5 to 10 pm on the day of the opening in the presence of the organizers.
