Curatorial Assistant

LIGHT ART SPACE, a newly founded, private interdisciplinary center 
for art in Berlin is looking for a curatorial assistant (full-time 
position, start May 2018).

The focus is on light and light art in its various forms and the 
interplay between art, science and new technologies. Situated in the 
exceptional setting of old industrial halls from the 19th century, on 
an island, Light Art Space offers about 5000 square meter of 
exhibition space. The first pre-opening exhibition is planned for 
Dec. 2018, the public opening for 2020.

The Curatorial Assistant supports the director with all manner of 
exhibition development, research, coordination, and 
execution-including a wide scope of curatorial functions such as 
managing exhibition and artwork production, tracking expenses and 
maintaining budgets. Liaises with artists, galleries, lenders, and 
organizations involved in exhibitions and related programs. Conducts 
ongoing research of artists and exhibitions as assigned. Supports the 
director with the publication program, including research, concept, 
as well as publishing.

The Curatorial Assistant reports to the director and is a key member 
of the team. In the course of this work, the Curatorial Assistant 
regularly collaborates closely with other departments including 
Development or Communications.

Requirements: Qualified candidates will have a B.A. degree in art 
history or related field, strong knowledge of contemporary art, and 
at least two years of professional experience in curatorial positions 
or equivalent that demonstrates experience in managing and executing 
exhibitions. Superior judgment and a high level of professionalism as 
well the ability to work independently is essential. Strong 
interpersonal skills, with excellent verbal, written communication in 
German and English as well as computer skills required; further 
foreign language skills (written and verbal) are desirable. The 
candidate must be highly organized, detail-oriented, efficient, and 
proactive, with excellent time management and flexibility to manage 
rapid and frequent shifts in priorities.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
