Az Ongoing h/Histories című kiállítás – a szintén a Stúdió Galériában
megrendezett, a Mi Holokausztunk tárlathoz hasonlóan – a 70-es évek végén,
80-as évek közepén született, fiatal alkotók viszonyulását vizsgálja a
A kiállítás a következő kérdésekre keresi a választ:
Létezhet-e valamiféle közös tapasztalata ennek a generációnak?

A tárlat ezen a ponton támaszkodik Marianne Hirsch sokat hivatkozott
A munkák nagy részét jellemzi a személyes
indíttatás, a családi történetekhez való aktív viszony és a történelem
szubjektív voltának hangsúlyozása. Ezzel párhuzamosan arra is láthatunk
emelik át azokat a jelenbe.

A kiállítás felfogható egyfajta háromdimenziós, alternatív
történelemkönyvként is, amelynek „fejezeteit” a látogató egy-egy művész
alkotásán keresztül ismerheti meg. A tárlat a történelem értelmezésének
nézőpontból, más hangsúlyok mentén mutat be.

Ezen
kapcsolódó események verbális és non-verbális eszközökkel értelmezik újra a
kiállítás tematikáját. Célunk, hogy a néző ne passzív szemlélője, hanem
aktív formálója, társalakítója legyen a kiállításnak. A kiállítás
záróeseménye egy felhívásos pályázat alapján szervezett performansz-est
lesz, amely során a résztvevők fiktív történelem érettségi tételeket
interpretálnak.

The exhibition Ongoing h/Histories – similar to the exhibition entitled
“Our Holocaust”, which also took place at the Studio Gallery – investigates
how young artists, representatives of the third generation, approach
certain eras and episodes of the history of the 20th century. Among other
things, the exhibition searches for answers to the following questions: Why
is the method of processing and reflecting to the inherited past so
relevant among young artists? Through what kind of artistic strategies does
this occur and what are the artists’ role in it? Which episodes are too
near in history to be discussed, and which are too distant to relate to?
Where does history end and our personal experiences begin Is it relevant to
talk about a general, collective experience of this generation?

At this point, the exhibition is based on postmemory, the frequently quoted
term coined by Marianne Hirsch. Postmemory suggests generations without
direct experience of collective and personal traumas, remembering these
instead by studying oral history and images that carry the traces of the
original events. The artists remember the events secondarily and
indirectly, but this does not mean that they distance themselves from the
events. Many of the art pieces are characterized by a strong connection to
family stories, personal motivation and the emphasis on the subjective
aspect of history. Meanwhile we can see examples of pieces where this view
is linked together with a more objective gesture, and the connection to
certain events or periods is formed by the personal history of “others”.
The artists uncover the layers of history like an archeologist and thus
bring them to the present.

The exhibition can be regarded as an alternative, three dimensional history
book, whose chapters’ can be elaborated through the works of the
represented artists. The basic concept is the plurality of the
interpretation of the past. The exhibition shows the given historical
events from a different point of view, where the artists lay emphasis on
other aspects, therefore the exhibition attempts to query the legitimacy
and authenticity of official history telling.

Another aim of the exhibition is to create a live project which is
constantly in flux. This will change the exhibition space into a special
“installation”, which will appear in a double position throughout the
opening, and will function as an “open stage”, that will host several
performative events. These related programs are reflecting on the topic of
the exhibition through using verbal and non-verbal language. We put special
emphasis on the relationship between the viewer and the artworks and our
aim is to help the visitor to become an active participant of the show
rather than being a passive observer. The final event of the exhibition
will be a performance night based on an open call, in which the
participants will reflect on imaginary History school-leaving examination
topics.
