The Art of Ukraine’s
Euromaidan:

Changing
Environment

a lecture By Dr. Nazar Kozak

*29 March (Sunday), at 6 pm*

FLUX gallery [ at GAP ]
1093 Budapest, Lónyai utca 31.

On December 1, 2013 the central square of Ukraine’s capital Kyiv had been
blocked by barricades. Inside the perimeter an inner city of freedom
started to grow, with free shelter, food and medical care for everybody.
This movement attracted artists. Many of them were documenting it through
photography, painting and other forms of artistic reflection. Many joined
its “propaganda regiment” producing posters and leaflets and spreading them
through social networks; but few were attempting to transform the very
environment within which Ukraine’s Revolution of Dignity took place. In
this lecture, Dr. Nazar Kozak will discuss the artworks illegally placed in
the public spaces occupied by the protesters. Who created them? Why? What
had inspired them? How they did function in the course of events? What was
(and would be) their fate afterward?
