Frans Masereel Centre offers residencies and a
working space to graphic designers, artists and
critics who want to work with intaglio, relief
printing, screenprint or lithographyŠ or who want
to investigate the relationship of graphic
techniques with other visual arts.
Besides workshops for intaglio, letterpress
printing, lithography and screen printing, there
is also a typography workshop (with wood and lead
typesetting) and a digital studio with, next to
the scanners and printers necessary to prepare
various photographic processes, a
high-definition, large-scale printer and a
digital stencil machine, as well as a laser
cutter and riso machine. The focus is on creation
and experimentation in the workshop. Frans
Masereel Centre wants to stimulate new graphic
practices in contemporary arts.

Residency types

residency
Four-six weeks
The artist or graphic designer realizes a print
project that matches his or her personal oeuvre.
No prior knowledge of the graphic medium is
required. Our two workshop managers provide
technical assistance when needed.

residency
Eight weeks
This residency is aimed at the research of the
graphic medium. The wide range of printing
techniques available at the centre provides the
opportunity to study technical aspects,
innovative processes and graphic visual elements.
A profound knowledge of the medium is required.

residency
Four weeks
Critics, artists and theoreticians can reside at
the centre to write a critical text on a
print-related topic. The essay can relate to one
or several resident artists, to an exhibition on
graphic media, or to research about the graphic
medium.

General conditions
Costs: 155 EUR per week per artist. This includes
the accommodation, the use of the professional
print workshop, technical advice and the use of
workshop materials. For some digital prints,
papers and specific inks, you will be charged
with a small fee.

We offer accommodation in a personal little house
(with equipped kitchen, personal bathroom, etc)
during your residency. There's room for up to
four people, so you are free to bring a partner,
assistant, friend or family member. There is also
a bike at your disposal.

Procedure
Apply through the online application form before
the deadline on August 1. A professional jury
makes the selection of residents before September
1. Shortly afterwards, you will be notified
whether or not you have been selected. For more
information on admission please read
