  The ifs internationale filmschule köln is a 
non-profit institution that educates the next 
generation of storytellers in film, television 
and digital media. It offers a Bachelor's in Film 
with specializations in Screenwriting, Film 
Directing, Creative Producing, Cinematography, 
Editing Picture and Sound, and Digital Arts; a 
Master's program in Serial Storytelling, as well 
as an extensive range of further education 
programs. It works in cooperation with the 
Cologne University of Applied Sciences. The 
Cologne University of Applied Sciences, with 
proven strengths in the fields of engineering and 
the natural sciences, the humanities and social 
sciences, and art and design, is considered one 
of the most innovative and research-oriented 
universities of applied sciences. The university 
is a part of an international research and 
education network and is an important partner in 
the dissemination of knowledge and technology.


The ifs internationale filmschule köln is 
currently seeking to appoint a part-time (50%) 
W2-Professor for Serial Storytelling (non-tenured 
track for a three-year assignment, renewable 
contract) 

Position summary and responsibilities

S/he will be expected to teach serial 
storytelling in the Serial Storytelling Master's 
program as well as in the core areas the 
undergraduate programs.

Responsibilities include: 
- Supervise and curate student serial storytelling projects 
- Examine serial storytelling for television and 
digital platforms, both in theory and practice 
- Teach collaborative working techniques 
- Mentor students in the research and development 
of innovative serial concepts 
- Conduct group-oriented instruction as well as 
artistic, hands-on individual supervision 
- Expand the department's research and curricular 
strengths, international scope, and 
interdisciplinary interests
- Contribute to the conceptual and curricular planning 
- Academic service 

Qualifications
The ifs is looking for an outstanding individual 
with extensive practical and artistic experience 
in the field of serial storytelling.  

The successful candidate will have gained 
practical experience in the development and 
production of series; have knowledge of 
transnational markets and new digital platforms 
as well as the financing and distribution of 
serial formats; have mastered the methods and 
techniques of creative collaboration and see the 
potential of serial storytelling in future media 
developments. An excellent command of English as 
well as a good command of spoken and written 
German is required.

The successful candidate will have experience in 
teaching and mentoring artistic and creative 
processes and will be open to interdisciplinary 
collaboration with students and professors of the 
study specializations Film Directing, 
Screenwriting, Creative Producing, 
Cinematography, and Digital Film Arts. The 
successful candidate will exhibit the ability to 
focus his/her own thinking and actions to help 
the university achieve its long-term goals, and 
display the capacity to develop solutions jointly 
and reliably in shared tasks. 

A PhD is required. Candidates not holding a PhD 
but who demonstrate a commitment to artistic 
research through their practice and published 
work, may also apply and submit an academic 
evaluation along with their application material.
