Presentations by Arno van Roosmalen, Director of Stroom den Haag, and architect Jan Jongert, Head of Research, Superuse Studios, on the Dutch practice and experience of sustainable art will provide a platform for discussion of the role of autonomous art initiatives in transforming the city environment.

Arno van Roosmalen: The Renewable Energy of Stroom Den Haag
Arno van Roosmalen is the director of Stroom Den Haag, an independent centre for art and architecture founded in 1989 in the Netherlands. Starting from the visual arts, architecture, urban planning and design, the innovative program of Stroom is focused on the urban environment and fostering the role of visual arts in encouraging reflections on the city. The topic of ‘being public' is the connecting factor of Stroom's diverse program, which in addition to exhibitions, talks and research includes mediating and supporting projects in public space. The name Stroom was chosen because it stands for energy and movement. http://translocal.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=570b39e1c8870bc1a61c32e89&id=c29426fa44&e=a0c4d65f46

Jan Jongert: Cyclifiers
The presentation by Jan Jongert, Head of Research at Superuse Studios, is an investigation into new ways of creating value, exploring the potential of unused flows in our cities. Engaging deeply with the ecosystems of production and the city, open-source exchange, design-led sustainable construction, and the Blue Economy, Superuse Studios have been at the forefront of rethinking our relationships with materials and resources for 15 years. Their expertise is embedded in four interlinked studios, dealing with research, architecture, design and materials – and dedicated to “superusing available flows and resources and connecting them into urban ecosystems.” http://translocal.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=570b39e1c8870bc1a61c32e89&id=759e8a3320&e=a0c4d65f46
