'Curatorial Knowledge & Art Journalism'

Start: February 2014
The part-time postgraduate course, devised by the
Ruhr University Bochum, is aimed specifically at
the requirements of exhibiting modern and
contemporary art and writing about it. It is run
in cooperation with many museums and exhibition
spaces in Northrhine-Westphalia. In-depth
tutorials, work discussions and workshops with
internationally renowned curators, artists,
journalists, writers and other experienced
representatives from the fields of exhibitions
and media, lead to a thorough, practice-oriented
knowledge of the art of the 20th and 21st century.
During their postgraduate programme the
participants will acquire key areas of expertise
for their professional activities, both practical
and theoretical. They study the history, theory
and practice of curating and the categories and
criteria of art journalism.
The advanced training programme provides:
* consolidation and application of
specialist knowledge about modern and
contemporary art
* critical analysis, reflection and mediation of exhibitions
* debate of current theories and methods
* acquisition and adaptation of expertise
in conceiving and realising curatorial projects
* analysis and development of innovative
formats for the presentation and mediation of art
* extension of target-group-specific writing skills
The programme can be studied in modular parts and alongside work.
