című, angol nyelvű tanulmánykötet bemutatójára.

A könyvet bemutatják:
András Edit, az MTA Művészettörténeti Kutatóintézetének tudományos főmunkatársa, a kiadvány szerkesztője és szerzője,
valamint a kötet két további szerzője:
Zoran Erić, a belgrádi Museum of Contemporary Art kurátora
Peternák Miklós, az MKE tanszékvezetője, a C3 Alapítvány igazgatója

A beszélgetést az ACAX kurátorai, Kálmán Rita és Stepanovic Tijana moderálják.

Az eseményhez kapcsolódan három videoalkotást vetítünk le a Transitland Archívum anyagából.

A Transitland. Video Art from Central and Eastern Europe 1989-2009 című tanulmánykötet a közép- és kelet európai régió elmúlt húsz évének videoművészetét helyezi vizsgálódásának középpontjába. Szerzői, a térség elismert szakértői – teoretikusok, kurátorok, kritikusok és művészek – különböző aspektusokból közelítik meg a poszt-szocialista országok videoművészetét, ezzel is demonstrálva annak sokszínűségét és elevenségét. A kiadvány hat új és tizenkét újraközölt tanulmányt, illetve esszét tartalmaz, mely utóbbiak közül három most olvasható először angol nyelven.
A tanulmánykötet szerzői: András Edit, Ruben Arevshatyan, Giorgio Bertellini, Konstantin Bokhorov, Svetlana Boym, Boris Buden, Călin Dan, Margarita Dorovska, Zoran Erić, Antonio Geusa, Boris Groys, Marina Gržinić, Kathy Rae Huffman, Ryszard W. Kluszczyński, Mihnea Mircan, Peternák Miklós, Tomáš Pospiszyl, Boryana Rossa, Katarína Rusnáková, Keiko Sei.
A kötet az esszéken kívül tartalmazza a Transitland Archívumban szereplő száz videoművészeti alkotás rövid leírását is.

Transitland Destination Berlin

A tanulmánykötet 2009. november 6-8. között nagyszabású programsorozat keretében Berlinben is bemutatásra kerül. Az előadások és vetítések során az érdeklődőknek alkalmuk nyílik a Transitland Archívum megismerésére. Az eseményen többek között látható lesz az a hat videomunka is, mely kifejezetten a Transitland projekt keretében és támogatásával készült.

Transitland projekt

A tanulmánykötet a Transitland című nemzetközi projekt keretében jelenik meg. A projekt eredménye egy olyan egyedülálló videoarchívum, mely a berlini fal leomlása óta eltelt húsz év közép- és kelet európai videoművészetéből nyújt válogatást. Az Archívum összesen száz videoművészeti alkotást foglal magában, összeállításában a régió mintegy ötven kurátora vett részt. A videomunkák amellett, hogy dokumentálják, elemzik és kontextualizálják ezt a komplex régiót és időszakot, számos egyéni nézőpontot közvetítenek, amelyek egyedi színezetet adnak a rendszerváltásról szóló esztétikai és kritikai diskurzusnak.
A tanulmánykötet, valamint az Archívum teljes anyagát tartalmazó mobil lejátszók mellett a projekt online verziója biztosítja, hogy az anyag nemzetközi szinten kutathatóvá váljon. Ezen túl a három együttműködő partner 2009 és 2010 folyamán számos vetítést és nyilvános eseményt rendez Bulgáriában, Németországban, illetve Magyarországon. A Ludwig Múzeum jövő januárban nyíló, az Archívum anyagán alapuló tematikus kiállítása pedig a szélesebb közönségnek is lehetővé teszi, hogy bepillantást nyerjen az elmúlt két évtized kelet- és közép európai videotermésébe.

The reader will be introduced by:
Edit András, editor and author of the publication, senior research fellow of Research Institute for Art History of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest,
followed by the brief lectures of two authors:
Zoran Erić, curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Belgrade
Miklós Peternák, founding head of the Intermedia Department at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts, director of C3 Foundation

Moderators of the event: Rita Kálmán and Tijana Stepanovic, curators of ACAX

In addition to the lectures, three videos from the Transitland Archive will be screened during the launch event.

The lectures will be held in English and Hungarian. Translation provided.

Transitland – Video Art from Central and Eastern Europe 1989-2009, a reader with essays, examines the video art of the last twenty years in post-Socialist Central and Eastern Europe. The authors of the book are well-established professionals in the region – curators, critics and artists. They provide selective analyses of different aspects, and an angle on the field observed, demonstrating its fecundity and vividness.
The publication includes six essays commissioned specially for this volume and twelve republished papers, three of which can be read in English for the first time.
The authors are: Edit András, Ruben Arevshatyan, Giorgio Bertellini, Konstantin Bokhorov, Svetlana Boym, Boris Buden, Călin Dan, Margarita Dorovska, Zoran Erić, Antonio Geusa, Boris Groys, Marina Gržinić, Kathy Rae Huffman, Ryszard W. A separate section, entitled “Transitland Video Archive”, provides the list and short descriptions of the selected 100 videos.


Transitland Destination Berlin

The Transitland publication will be introduced on 7 November 2009 in Berlin, in the frame of a 3-day programme, including discussions, performances and screenings. During the event, six video works commissioned for the Transitland project will be premiered.

Transitland Project

The volume has been produced in the framework of the Transitland project, initiated on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Its main outcome is an archive of video works produced in the period 1989-2009, reflecting the transformations in post-Socialist Central and Eastern Europe. The Archive includes 100 video works selected by approximately 50 curators from the region. Alongside the numerous discursive and documentary attempts to describe, analyse and contextualise the transformations, a multitude of viewpoints and aspects, presented through the media of video art are meant to provide a unique asset of aesthetic and critical positions to the current discourse on the transition period.
The Archive is accessible online and also “capsulated” in so-called video jukeboxes, which makes the entire video-selection available internationally. Furthermore, the project partners organise a series of screening programmes and discursive events in 2009 and 2010 in Bulgaria, Germany and Hungary. The exhibition next January at the Ludwig Museum Budapest, based on the Archive, makes it possible for a broad audience to get an in-depth insight into the Central and Eastern European video art of the last two decades.
