> Aki ma végigsétál az UNESCO által 2002 óta védett régi pesti
> zsidónegyed utcáin, akár azt is hiheti, hogy most ért véget a második
> világháború. A negyed egyes részein üres telkek, lakóktól kiürített,
> üzleti élettol megfosztott, pusztuló muemlék lakóházak, csak
> homlokzatukat és elso traktusukat orzo házroncsok látványa fogad. A
> lakótelepet idézo új házakban sincs élet: az új épületek, átjáróházak
> kísértetiesek, az üzletek helyén többnyire mélygarázslehajtó tátong.  
> Úgy
> tunik, Pest egykor legélénkebb és legizgalmasabb kereskedonegyedét  
> lakók
> és üzletek nélküli fantomváros váltja fel. A városképet meghatározó
> zsinagógák mellett a védett városnegyedben csak azok a részek élnek,
> azok tartották meg történelmi kisugárzásukat, jellegzetes

> ahol komolyabb változások, bontások és építkezések még nem történtek.
> Itt nyílnak egyre-másra a fiatalok és külföldiek által kedvelt
> alternatív kávéházak, üzletek, kulturális helyek is.
> Az átalakulás jellege - nyilvánvaló kudarc. A városrész életét és
> látványát a befektetoi fejlesztések nem felértékelték, hanem
> egyértelmuen tönkretették, hatásukra a kivételes hely értéke
> jelentosen csökkent. A káros folyamat minden nemzetközi és hazai
> tiltakozás ellenére sem állt le, töretlenül folytatódik. Ebben a
> kritikus helyzetben újabb kísérletet teszünk a jelenlegi szemlélet és
> gyakorlat megváltoztatására: a nemzetközi és országos védettségnek  
> és az
> UNESCO elvárásainak megfelelo új tervek kialakítására. Alternatív
> tervünk bemutatásával gondolkodási és cselekvési folyamatot
> szeretnénk elindítani, azért, hogy a jelenleg érvényes szabályozási
> terveket mielobb felfüggesszék és meginduljon a valódi rehabilitáció
> megvalósítása. Nem gondoljuk, hogy a mi tervünk az egyetlen lehetséges
> megoldás, de hiszünk abban, hogy egy újfajta, ehhez hasonló
> gondolkodásnak és szemléletnek kell érvényesülnie. Ez hozhat valódi,
> hosszú távú felértékelodést, társadalmi, kulturális, idegenforgalmi és
> gazdasági hasznot egyaránt. A politikai szándékon és akaraton múlik,
> hogy ami a vélt gazdasági érdekek és a kialakult érdekszövetségek  
> miatt
> lehetetlennek tunik, mégis megtörténjék.

> Lehet kevesebbet, kisebbet, de értékesebbet építeni, lehet történelmi
> épületek rendbe hozásával, jobb lakókörülmények megteremtésével, a
> hagyományok és az emlékezés helyszíneinek védelmével, a közlekedés
> környezeti terheinek eroteljes csökkentésével, kertek, parkok
> kialakításával, a kulturális és vallási élet segítésével hosszú távon
> jól muködo, élettel teli, vonzó városrészt kialakítani, ahogy

> és komoly felértékelodéshez vezetett - Európa összes városában,  
> nyugaton
> és keleten, Párizsban, Berlinben, Prágában, Krakkóban, Varsóban
> egyaránt. Miért ne lehetne itt is?

> a World Heritage site under UNESCO protection since 2002, may get the
> impression that the war has just ended. They see vacant plots,

> apartment buildings, abandoned business venues, decaying architectural
> monuments, the facades and frontal sections of partially demolished
> buildings, recently built apartment blocks resembling housing estates,
> ghost houses and passages, and the yawning entrances of underground
> garages. Apparently, a phantom town without residents or vendors is
> emerging in the place of one of the liveliest and most exciting former
> merchant districts of Pest. Beside the synagogues, which are the
> distinctive landmarks of the urban landscape, the only parts of the

> Under these critical circumstances we have decided to launch yet

> area's status of an international and national heritage site, and that
> correspond with UNESCO's expectations. By presenting our alternative
> plans we would like to ferment new ideas and to generate a new  
> movement

> hallgatói készítették.

> Elképzeléseink, gondolataink mellett bemutatunk néhány erre a negyedre
> készült pályázatot, diplomamunkát. Köztük vannak a 2005-ös nemzetközi
> EUROPAN pályázat zsidó negyedre készített díjnyertes terve, az ÓVÁS!

> az OCTOGON folyóirat Király utca 40.-re 2006-ban kiírt pályázatának

> elso-díjas terve, a 2008-ban végzett magyarországi építészhallgatók,
