You are warmly invited to attend the private view of „Curious  
Looking“, a project by Joe Schneider(GB), on the 20th September 2008  
from 4.00 - 8.00 pm at the Bridge Guard Residence, Pri Colnici 2,  
Štúrovo, Slovakia.

Tisztelettel meghívjuk Joe Schneider (GB): "Curious  
Looking" (Különös nézetek) című projektjének bemutatására.  
Mikor: 2008. szeptember 20 (szombat), 16:00 – 20:00 között Hol:  
Hídőr-ház, Vámház köz 2, Párkány, Slovakia.

A Hídőr Projekt egy Párkányban létrehozott kezdeményezés nyomán  
valósult meg. Helyet biztosít a kortárs művészeti törekvések  
bemutatására - két part között - ezen a különleges helyen. A  
Hídőr-ház művészei háromtól hat hónapig terjedő itt  
tartózkodásuk alatt ösztöndíjat, lakhatást és műtermet kapnak,  
valamint teljes művészi szabadságot. A Hídőr-házba olyan  
művészek kapnak meghívást, akik alkotásaik révén egy újfajta  
kommunikációra, kapcsolatkeresésre, önreflexióra ösztönzik az  
embereket. Arra, hogy környezetüket és önmagukat másként is  
látni tudják, vagy akár meghaladni tudják. A projekt olyan  
elképzelések megvalósítását ösztönzi, amelyek révén szellemi  
és mentális hidak épülnek például Párkány és Esztergom, a  
helybéliek és idelátogatók, a különböző nemzedékek vagy  
társadalmi csoportok között. A „hídőrség“ létrehozását a  
Mária Valéria híd újjáépítése ösztönözte, illetve az a  
felismerés, hogy a szellemi hídőrizet fontosabb mint a fizikai. A  
művészi reflexió és az alkotás folyamata lehetőséget kínál  
azon értékek megőrzésére, amelyek nélküle elvesznének a tárgyi  
világban. Az alkotás folyamata nem a fizikai világ tárgyait, hanem  
azok kapcsolatát őrzi és jeleníti meg, valamint az emberek és a  
világ kapcsolatát. Hitünk szerint mindaddig, amíg az emberek  
közötti szellemi kapcsolatok épülnek és ápolva vannak, az  
újjáépített híd  - és mindaz, amit jelent - sincs veszélyben.

The Bridge Guard Residential Art/Science Centre is an initiative based  
in Štúrovo, Slovakia. It provides a platform unique to the area that  
presents exciting and challenging work in a wide range of media by  
international contemporary artists and scientists. The Bridge Guard is  
supported for a period of 3 or 6 months providing them with a stipend,  
an apartment and a studio space. It gives them the freedom to respond  
to the town of Štúrovo and its surroundings and this freedom is their  
only constraint.
	Artists and scientists have in common the ability to investigate and  
experiment within their field of study in order to illuminate and  
challenge our understanding of the world. The emphasis is on inviting  
artists or scientists who make work that offers people the means to  
communicate with each other in new ways and that allows them to see  
the locality and themselves in a new light. It encourages projects  
that create bridges between people, for example, between the two towns  
of Štúrovo and Esztergom, between inhabitants and tourists, between  
people speaking different languages or between different generations  
or social groups. The ambiguous nature of the border is particularly  
apparent for the people who live in this area. The artistic or  
scientific process can offer the possibility to reflect on and escape  
from the ways a border limits how we think about ourselves and others.  
It offers the chance for us to reflect on the way we translate the  
world around us into the language of our own thoughts. It makes  
possible a creative way of imagining the world and helps us understand  
the way we give meaning to things.
	The Bridge Guard was inspired by the reconstruction and reopening in  
2001 of the Mária Valéria bridge which connects the towns of  
Štúrovo (Slovakia) and Esztergom (Hungary). The Bridge Guard project  
promotes the idea that mental protection is more important than  
physical protection. The reflection and representation that art and  
science makes possible safeguards the meaning of things that might  
otherwise be overlooked. If the mental connection between people is  
kept open then the bridge and all that it symbolises is not endangered.
