Research Associate: New Media
Part-time Position, $20/hour; 20 hours/week, April 2008 through March 2009
The Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at Rutgers University, New
Brunswick is seeking a research associate with expertise in new media to work
with undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty on the production
and
circulation of innovative new media applications. The research associate
will work with a select group of students to digitize materials from the Center
for Women’s Global Leadership Archive, including unique collection of
approximately 300 posters documenting the past 20 years of transnational
women's
activism. This digital database will become a resource for new approaches to
international research on visual culture and women’s activism.
The research associate will also train students, faculty, and staff in audio
and video recording, duplicating, editing; using software packages including
productivity suites, image editing programs, web browsers, and specialized
multimedia software and equipment. In addition to providing instruction on
multimedia applications through one-on-one consultations and workshops, the
research associate will produce web-oriented materials that demonstrate
possibilities for innovative research and instruction in women’s and gender
studies.
The successful candidate must have at least a Bachelor's degree, one year
teaching or training in the use of technology, two years experience in design
and development of web-based applications, experience with MAC and Windows,
proficient in iLife, Dreamweaver, Photoshop to prepare and optimize images for
use on the Web, and one or more of the other programs in Adobe Studio Master
Collection for Mac; and familiarity with Life Forms, Final Cut Pro, Sibelius,
Finale, or similar software.
The research associate will have the opportunity to work at the Sharon
Fordham Multimedia Laboratory, a newly inaugurated facility in a renovated area
of
Mabel Smith Douglass Library at Rutgers University (Douglass Campus, New
Brunswick). The lab is equipped with 12 MAcPro computers with cinematic
displays
with dual-core Intel Xeon. Operating System: Apple Leopard, and Microsoft
XP. Software include iLife 2008 package, Adobe Studio Master Collection for
Mac, Microsoft Office 2007 (Windows), Sibelius, Finale, Life Forms and Dance
Forms, Laban, and Lame. Two separate machines are equipped with additional
software; one has Apple Final Cut Pro Suite and the other Pro-Tools.
Peripherals
include scanner, video playbacks in different formats, and midi keyboard.
