New Course As Part Of The TIPP Program of Contemporary Art

English Language and Contemporary Art Theory

Two courses running for two hours once a week, an introduction to
Contemporary art language and advanced contemporary art language.

Course Leader: David Wilkinson

The course is open application, however it should prove especially useful
for artists and art historians/curators, who feel that his or her English is
of a good level but needs a more intensive specialist grounding in the terms
and phraseology of art language in English. The number of places on each
course is limited so please apply
in good time.
Advanced level. For those who already have an excellent command of English
but would like to develop it in a particular direction in relation to art
and theory. It is also relevant for those students who completed the
introductory course last year. It takes the same format as the introductory
level (reading group) but with texts that have a more demanding vocabulary.
Introductory level. Students should have a good level of English and bring a
good English dictionary. The structure of the sessions take that of a
reading group exploring texts that are perhaps unavailable in the Hungarian
language such as Robert Smithson, Michel Foucault, Julia Kristeva, Deleuze
and Guattari as well as others. Thus a stockpile of words and phrases are
explored that are not common to everyday English but are essential to artist
or art historians wishing to broaden their use of the English language.
Parallel to this is the opportunity to explore theory and discuss at a group
level the implications of this on art practice at an international level.

Included in both courses will be monthly screening of an international
artists video program and the availability of an audio library from the ICA
London.

David Wilkinson is an artist based in Budapest and London. He has worked in
the exhibition department at both the Institute of Contemporary Arts in
London and at the Henry Moore Sculpture Trust in Yorkshire. He is exhibiting
his works widely and had experience in art education for a number of years.
He is currently the Creative Director of the TIPP Tihany Postgraduate
Program.

The course’s are fee-paying 1.500HUF per hour and will start early March.
Each class will be a two-hour session once a week at the Academy. Class
sizes will be kept small and students will be able to have individual
tutorials if they so wish.

Deadline for applications: February 27th 2006

Start Date: 6th March
