Body Image can be defined as the picture a person has
of his/her physical, mental and emotional self. It
involves perception, imagination, judgment, sensation,
awareness and behavior. This picture of oneself is
shaped, developed and ever changing because we are
sensitive to changes in mood, environment and personal
experiences. For instance, we learn about body image
through interactions with family, friends, peers,
media, culture and the social world. We pick up on
standards and expectations of what kind of person we
are supposed to be. Sometimes these standards and
expectations make us (want to / or actually) seek out
ways to change ourselves, physically, mentally,
literally or figuratively. Through alternative
therapies, traditional medical practices, cosmetic
procedures and treatments, and self-imposed
manipulation one may seek to change them self. Looking
for short films and videos about body image either
positive, negative, gender or non-gender specific,
masculine or feminine, personal, cultural or social
commentary, etc. Film and video entries accepted,
however, this will be video projection only.
