A Közép-Európai Egyetem Center for Arts and Culture (CAC) 
kutatatóközpontja az Open Society Archives (OSA) együttműködésével 
Exhibition in Context - Stalin Cities címmel szeminárium-sorozatot indít 
március 10-től a Centrális Galériában. 

Márciustól a Centrális Galéria aktuális kiállításaihoz kapcsolódó 
multidiszciplináris szeminárium-sorozat indul az OSA és a CAC 
megállapodása alapján. Az előadás- és vitasorozat a művészetek, 
társadalom- és humán tudományok nézőpontjai felől közelíti meg a 
kiállításon bemutatott témákat, elemzi a kiállított anyagok társadalmi-
kulturális kontextusát (hagyomány, örökség, környezet, mindennapok 
stb.), és megvitatja a gyűjtemények inspirálta átfogó kérdéseket.

Az első, “kísérleti szeminárium” a Sztálinvárosok kiállításhoz 
kapcsolódik. A dokumentumokon bemutatott “hat város” és a tematikus 
gyűjtemény láthatóvá teszi, hogyan valósultak meg a gyakorlatban 
az “egyenlőségre törekvő nagy tervek”, hogyan határozta meg a 
kommunista vízió és idelógia a mindannapi életet, és mi is az az 
úgynevezett szoc-reál építészet. A különböző városrendezési tervek és 
megvalósulásaik bemutatásához kapcsolódva a szeminárium rákérdez 
a városokat meghatározó “szocialista” és “posztszocialista” 
feltételrendszerre, és foglalkozik a kiemelt városokkal. 
A szemináriumok a város kérdéseihez és problémáihoz különböző 
tudományterületek nézőpontjából és metodológiájával - például a 
szociológia, szociálpszichológia, építészet, várostörténet, 
művészettörténet és -elmélet módszerével - közelítenek. 

A szeminárium angol nyelvű,  az előadásokat a témában jártas, 
meghívott külföldi kutatók tartják. A szemináriumon való részvétel 
nyitott minden érdeklődő számára.
 
Az előadások minden nap 11.00 és 13.00 óra között lesznek.

The CEU Center for Arts and Culture (CAC), in cooperation with Open 
Society Archives (OSA), 
cordially invites you to a special seminar in Galeria Centralis.

The Center for Arts and Culture organizes a series of special seminars 
and discussions that are linked to each actual exhibition presented at 
the Galeria Centralis from March 2004 onwards. The aim is to 
contextualize the exhibitions by reflecting on the displays from the 
point of view of the social sciences, humanities and the arts; to analyze 
and understand better the displayed materials and their socio-cultural 
contexts (traditions, heritages, environments, etc.); and to discuss 
related but more general topics inspired by the collection.

The first “experimental seminar-series” is connected to the Six Stalin 
Cities-exhibition which displays various materials in a documentary 
format, and the thematic collection shows that how “egalitarian” plans 
were put into practice, how the Communist vision and ideology 
determined everyday-life, and what is the so-called socialist-realist 
architecture is all about. Having this assemblage of a distinctive urban 
planning and its realization, the special seminar will focus both on 
the “socialist” and “post-socialist” conditions of cities in general, and of 
these cities in particular. The city will be approached from the points of 
view of sociology, architecture, urban history, art history and theory - 
by experts from these fields. 

The seminar is designed as a series of seminars delivered by invited 
experts from various fields. Their lectures are combined with 
discussions which is both open for CEU students, faculty and staff, and 
to the interested audience.
