The 2005 edition of the AsoloArtFilmFestival will be held in Asolo (Treviso)
from 1-6 November 2005. The festival upholds the cultural tradition
established by the ‘Festival Internazionale del Film sull’Arte e di
Biografie d’Artista’, embodying the same concept. Inaugurated in 1973, the
former festival enjoyed great international success for over two decades,
until it finally closed at the end of the 1990s. Thirty years after its
inauguration and following the advances made in visual language, the
festival has been relaunched as the AsoloArtFilmFestival: an international
event centering on a competition with prizes, for cinema devoted to the arts
in their myriad forms of expression.

      The competition has five sections:

*        FILMS ON ART for works devoted to the visual arts and to music

*        ARTISTS’ LIVES for projects that depict, through a historical
reconstruction and critical interpretation, personalities from the world of
visual arts and of music

*        AUTEUR CINEMA: THE CHALLENGE OF EROTICISM for films that elevate
the universe of sensuality to the level of art

*        VIDEOART – COMPUTER ART for works utilizing electronic or computer
technologies as a means of direct artistic expression

*        PRODUCTIONS related to the visual arts and music, made by
recognized film schools, specialized higher education institutes and
universities

The festival’s artistic directors are Fabrizio Borin and Carlo Montanaro,
and the event was conceived and organized by the cultural association Asolo
International Art Festival (AIAF), a nonprofit private organization with
legal status (Veneto Regional Council Decree (DGR) no. 59741.03 of
18.04.03).

The AIAF is chaired by Lionello Puppi.

 

RULES

 

Only works made after 1 January 2003 are eligible for the competition.

The works must fall into one of the above 5 sections, which must be
indicated on the entry form. The Selection Committee reserves the right to
move a work to another section should it think fit.

 

To enter the competition the following are necessary:

*        An entry form with all the parts filled in

*        A copy of the work (PAL standard) in VHS or DVD

*        A short biography and essential filmography of the film-maker(s)

*        A synopsis of the work in Italian or English

*        At least two slides or JPEG images of different frames or stills of
the work, with authorization to broadcast them on television and publish
them in the press, and otherwise use them to promote the festival

*        Text of dialogue or commentary of the work in Italian or English

*        List of original and non-original musical compositions 

 

This material must be prepared and submitted by the participants, and sent
in by 20 May 2005. If works arrive after that date, the postmark will be
considered as proof of their having been sent in time. Should the material
submitted be incomplete, the organizing committee will decide whether the
work is eligible for the competition, and its decision will be final.

The materials submitted will not be returned but will be kept as
documentation in the festival archive.

A special committe will be set up to make a preliminary selection of the
works submitted.

At least 60 days before the opening date of the festival, the film-makers or
producers whose works have been chosen will be informed that they have been
accepted for the competition, and must submit a copy of the master
transferred to Betacam SP or DVD. If this copy is not in Italian it must be
subtitled in Italian. If these subtitles are missing, when required, the
contestant will automatically be excluded from the competition. The copies
of the chosen works must reach the organizing body of the festival before
and no later than 7 October 2005, otherwise they will be excluded. These
copies will not be returned but will be kept in the festival archive.

 

A special Jury consisting of five members, chosen by the Chairman of the
AIAF from leading international experts in the field, who may be flanked by
a representative of the AIAF as a member by right, will award to the works
eligible for the competition the following prizes:

 

*        GRAN PREMIO ASOLO FOR BEST FILM

*        PREMIO ASOLO FOR BEST ARTIST’S LIFE

*        PREMIO ASOLO FOR BEST AUTEUR FILM ON EROTICISM

*        PREMIO ASOLO FOR BEST VIDEOART AND COMPUTER ART WORK

*        PREMIO ASOLO FOR BEST PRODUCTION BY FILMS SCHOOLS, HIGHER EDUCATION
COURSES, UNIVERSITIES

*        PREMIO GIAN FRANCESCO MALIPIERO FOR BEST MUSIC SCORE

 

The Jury is also authorized to give a special mention to other competing
works of particular merit. The Jury’s decisions are final.

By taking part in the competition, the owners of the copyright of the
selected works freely authorize the inclusion of sequences from them lasting
no more than two minutes in TV news and other programmes, in order to
promote the festival. They also freely authorize non-commercial screenings
of their works.

The organizing body of the festival will take due care of the copies of the
works submitted, but assumes no responsibility for eventual damage either
during transportation or at the festival venues.

Taking part in the competition implies acceptance of the rules.

All contestants will receive a participation certificate.

Any disputes will be settled in the law-courts of Treviso.

Personal data will be treated according to the provisions of Law 675 of
31.12.1996 and subsequent modifications and integrations.
