Utopia Communication?
The Art Symposium is organized by KulturAXE, transnational communication
and artaction, and invites for the 12th time to a forum of communication
and exchange of ideas with artists and participants from many different
nations - in interdisciplinary art classes and project oriented workshops.

The communication in the transcultural and interdisciplinary context as a
source of inspiration stimulating thought processes and as an impetus for
personal life, for longings and desires in a highly changing world and
complex environments. The workshops are free to cooperate closely, up to
dynamically generating new contents on site.

The Art Symposium as a flexible and dynamic platform, which reacts on
communication processes and the preoccupation with the new as the 'valuable
other' to be explored, criticized and taken along. Ready held documentation
and information as well as video-screenings on the artists present at the
symposium, on national art scenarios, as well as on philosophical and
scientific themes - 'daily reading hour' - as a basis for discussions and
talks.

Interdisciplinarity and networks as crucial factors of our time? The
urgency of an art and culture oriented communication and interconnectedness
that links freedoms of different kinds (Amartya Sen, Indian Nobel Prize
winner: the immanent role of "freedoms of different kind") as opposed to
the ever increasing economically based exchange and collaboration? "The
challenge how to employ information tools to create new art, how to
interface them not just to data but to representations of human experience,
subjectivity and memory (Lev Manovich)"?

Programme
Residence weeks with a workshop programme on visual arts in an
interdisciplinary environment focusing on experimental approaches. The
programme consists of studios and project oriented workshops in the fields
of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, publishing, public art,
performance, mixed media, video and internet in connection with media
theory, philosophy and music. The intention is to foster new models for
thinking and practice with the aim to mix and work together in a new
critical context. It is also about creating a network for further exchange.

Ricsovary Major
is a vast country estate from the turn of the century located in the
vicinity of Lajosmisze and 70 km from Budapest. Ricsovary Major, consists
of a manor house and a number of houses and bungalows. The studios and
working facilities are directly situated at the estate.
