MAXIMIZING THE AUDIENCE

in the C3 Gallery

The exhibition is on view until 11 August, weekdays from 12 8:00 p.m.

MAXIMIZING THE AUDIENCE
and
THE ANIMATED BOOK

A book and a DVD presenting the work of the graphic designer GABOR PALOTAI.

Born in 1956 in Budapest, Gabor Palotai moved to Stockholm in 1981.=20
Following his studies at the Hungarian Academy of Applied Arts, Budapest=20
(M.A., 1980), he continued at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts=20
(1981-82) and the Beckmans School of Design (1982-83) in Stockholm. In 1988=
=20
he established his own design studio in Stockholm, Gabor Palotai Design,=20
and has made a most original contribution to Scandinavian graphic design.=20
In addition to his outstanding professional practice as a designer, Gabor=20
Palotai is an appreciated guest teacher at design schools in Sweden. He is=
=20
also engaged in experimental photography and textile design and has created=
=20
architectural elements for public spaces.

Gabor Palotai has shown his works in solo exhibitions in Stockholm,=20
Gothenburg, Helsinki, Paris and Budapest, and has participated in a number=
=20
of design exhibitions, e.g., in Stockholm (the National Museum), Berlin,=20
London, Gothenburg (R=F6hsska Museet), Malm=F6, etc.

Gabor Palotai has won the Excellent Swedish Design prize for the years=20
between 1987-2000 and has received numerous other awards, including The=20
Golden Egg Award (Best Swedish Advertising) and The National Library's Art=
=20
Book Award. He has works in the permanent collection of the National Museum=
=20
in Stockholm. His works also appear in many publications including Graphis,=
=20
as well as Graphis Posters and Graphis Design and Annuals (Switzerland),=20
Design & Art Direction (London).

With genuine artistic spirituality, he creates a powerful and radical=20
aesthetic. His work is characterised both by a serious and playful=20
interpretation of early modernist achievements, especially the Central=20
European tradition, the Bauhaus and Russian Constructivism. Thus, his=20
engagement is with what has not yet been seen. He creates a highly=20
individual and professional expression, and his works reveal an aura of=20
originality.

MAXIMIZING THE AUDIENCE
The book consists of two parts. The SECOND PART follows all the design=20
projects of Gabor Palotai, from 1985 to 2000, including corporate identity=
=20
programs, trademarks, editorial design, information systems, web design,=20
stamps, packaging, books, posters, exhibition design, annual reports,=20
promotion materials and other works made for some of the biggest Swedish=20
companies.
The FIRST PART serves as a gallery in a book. Here the viewer can see the=20
design taken from its context, free from the project it was made for. This=
=20
part presents topics that are in the focus of Gabor Palotai=92s interest:=20
construction, dimensions, heraldry, nature morte, heroes of typography,=20
textures, numbers, tourism, death and play.

THE ANIMATED BOOK DVD reveals the magic of his work with an emotional=20
simplicity that challenges the viewer through joyfulness and at the same=20
time, a suggestive seriousness.
