OPPORTUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT

(Apologies for cross-posting. If you would like to be removed from our
mailing list, please reply putting ŒREMOVE¹ in the subject line)

The Arts Catalyst & Gallery Oldham are looking for 2 artists-in-residence,
primarily to lead participatory activities on themes of art/biotechnology:

A Media Artist, and

A Theatre / Live Art Practitioner

For 15 day residencies during the CLEANROOMS exhibition at Gallery Oldham,
Oldham, Greater Manchester, UK

October / November 2002

Experienced and motivated artists, interested in engaging the public with
issues connected with art and biotechnology, are sought. These residencies
are intended to support the CleanRooms exhibition, which presents art works that
challenge responses to a science often perceived as secretive and sinister:
biotechnology. Exploring ideas of contamination and containment, ethics and
accountability, CleanRooms asks the audience to decide how far they themselves
would go with the emerging powers of genetic manipulation.

For the media artist, half the time can be spent on your own work, utilising
Gallery Oldham¹s media facilities, and half the time engaging with the public.
