with pleasure I would like to invite you to the following event:
Sie sind herzlich eingeladen zu folgendem Event:

Architecture as Staging
Architektur der Inszenierung
Colloquium 7th May 2001

As part of the Event City program the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is hosting =
a
Colloquium dealing with the fundamental changes to architecture in an Event
Society.  As a consequence of the aestheticisation of everyday life the
claim to represent local identity and culture through architecture comes
into question.  At the same time, in the global flow of cultural goods
architecture becomes part of the showcase, which the city uses to enhance
its image. By staging culture and history architecture begins again to tell
stories of place and identity.  Participants in the colloquium will discuss
diverse architectural strategies for the production of the city in the Even=
t
society.

Following this event, on May 8th 2001, we will present the results of the
2nd trimester of the II. Bauhaus Kolleg:  Designs for an Urban Entertainmen=
t
Center in Frankfurt=B9s Europaviertel. The designs reflect the current deba=
te
concerning strategies for urban staging.

Im Rahmen des Jahresthemas Event City veranstaltet die Stiftung Bauhaus
Dessau ein Kolloquium, das sich mit den Ver=E4nderungen von Architektur in =
der
Erlebnisgesellschaft besch=E4ftigt. Mit der umfassenden =C4sthetisierung de=
s
Alltags wird der Anspruch auf Repr=E4sentation von Lokalit=E4t und Kultur
mittels Architektur problematisch.  Gleichzeitig wird Architektur im
globalen Strom kultureller Waren zum Bestandteil des Schaufensters, mit dem
St=E4dte versuchen, ihr Image aufzupolieren. Mit Inszenierungen von Kultur =
und
Geschichte erz=E4hlt Architektur erneut Geschichten von Ortschaft und
Identit=E4t. Thema des Kolloquiums sind unterschiedliche architektonische
Strategien der Herstellung von Stadt in der Erlebnisgesellschaft.

Am Folgetag dieser Veranstaltung, am 8. Mai 2001, pr=E4sentieren die
Teilnehmer* des 2. Trimesters des II. Bauhaus Kollegs ihre
Arbeitsergebnisse: Entw=FCrfe f=FCr das Urban Entertainment Center im
Europaviertel Frankfurt, die die Auseinandersetzung mit gegenw=E4rtigen
urbanen Inszenierungsstrategien zum Hintergrund haben.
